Through AMSURG, our clinician-led organization is changing the face of healthcare by delivering high-quality care that puts the patient first.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Follows all policies and procedures of the CenterUses equipment effectively following manufacturer's instruction for useUses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practiceOrganizes nursing activities efficiently and effectivelyContinuously assess and monitors the physical and emotional status of the patient and documents and reports per policy and procedureUses two patient identifiers to assure correct patient and "ask don't tell" to identify correct procedure and physicianAddresses patient needs specific to the anticipated procedureTransports patients, as needed, observing policies, procedures and safety requirementsVerifies and explains procedure with the patient and discusses plan of care prior to transporting to procedure roomProvides comfort and reassurance to each patientMaintains patients privacy and dignityWork collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide safe continuity of patient careActively participates as a team member in support of the total endoscopy processOrganizes time, activities, equipment, supplies and personnel to provide efficient, cost effective patient careDelegates' activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff membersSupervises and directs patient care in pre, intra and post-opReviews patient's medical record and needs to provide continuity of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team and communicates variancesConsiders cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover timeAssists with supplies, drugs and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability; maintains order and cleanliness of pre procedure area(s), endoscopy room and PACUWorks collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare for the patient in their assigned area according to requirements of the patient, physician and procedure to include but not limited to, assembling and providing functions equipment, supplies and instruments including sterilization and high level disinfection of supplies and equipmentAdministers medication(s) per order of the physician and documents appropriatelyMonitors and reports any abnormal observed complications to the anesthesia provider and physicianAccurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction, following policy and proceduresDocuments in the patients medical record and other forms accurately, legibly and timely in a timely manner, following policies and proceduresProper aseptic and sterile techniques are used according to acceptable standards of practice – monitors and identifies breaks in sterile techniqueDemonstrates ongoing competencies with patient assessment and appropriate interventions when variances occurAssesses each patient for fall precautions and addresses per policySuccessfully able to start patient peripheral IVParticipates in the time outUses the Safe Surgical checklistWorks collaboratively with healthcare team to ensure physician preference cards are maintained and updated as neededHandles and logs tissue specimens correctly and accurately according to policy and proceduresEnsures the appropriate and safe positioning of the patient meeting patient needs and the planned procedure and monitors throughout the procedureMonitors and assess patient for recovery from anesthesiaPrepares patient for discharge to include: assisting with dressing, discharge instructions, medication reconciliation and follow-up physician appointment with patient and responsible adultDetermines and documents patient and responsible adult understanding of the discharge instructions and indications for seeking emergent careDevelops a plan of care, based on patient needs, related to the procedure and type of anesthesiaAttends all required educationPerforms other miscellaneous duties as assignedPosition Qualifications:Graduate of Accredited School of NursingRN with active license, no restrictions (DE)One (1) year of nursing experience, preferably, in an ambulatory surgery centerCPR certification and/or ACLS-PALS certification (as required by Center)Strong ethical and moral character referencesBasic computer skillsEOE Statement:AMSURG is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
