Assistant Principal, High School

The Assistant Principal, High School cooperatively works with the principal in the maintenance of appropriate instructional and extracurricular programs for the benefit of students. They assist the principal by carrying out designated duties in directing the daily activities of the staff and students and act in the capacity of the principal during his/her absence from duty. The Assistant Principal shall become familiar with all phases of the school program.

Job Duties:

• 20% Policy and Administrative Directive Oversight
• 40% Staff Supervision
• 30% Student Attendance and Discipline
• 10% Other

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervise staff and cooperate with the management team as needed.
• Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
• Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Minimum Requirements:
• Master's degree in education or related field.
• Valid driver's license and background clearance.
• State of Ohio Principal's Certificate/License.
• Professional tact, diplomacy, and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers, students, parents, and the community.
• Conscientious and assumes responsibility for own work performance.
• Successful completion of the OTES 2.0 teacher evaluation system and the OCES counselor evaluation system.
• Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and workplace terminology.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
• Skills in speaking, active listening, writing, service orientation, reading comprehension, social perceptiveness, coordination, time management, active learning, critical thinking, judgement and decision making, complex problem solving.
• Abilities in oral expression, oral comprehension, speech clarity, speech recognition, written comprehension, written expression, deductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, inductive reasoning, relationship building, near vision, information ordering.
