Desired outcomes must be determined in coordination with the patient and family, following the medical plan of care. Patient care therapies and procedures must be fully implemented within the RN's scope of practice. Explaining procedures and treatments to patients and families is essential. Initiating actions to alleviate patient stress and discomfort is a requirement. Recognizing, responding to, and communicating changes in patient condition appropriately is necessary. Conducting ongoing assessments and documenting responses to procedures and therapies according to policy is part of the job. Delegating tasks appropriately and overseeing team members in patient care activities is expected.
