Title: District Food Service Oversight & Operations Coordinator

Description: Is responsible for the overall management, oversight, communication, and operational support of district kitchen and food service operations. This position serves as the primary liaison between district administration, school coffee cafe(s), school kitchens, consultants, vendors, and families to ensure efficient operations and high-quality food service delivery.


The coordinator works collaboratively with district leadership and food service consultants to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while supporting staff, procurement, communication, and operational effectiveness across all district kitchen locations. This position will also oversee the coffee cafe at Fairfield JR/SR High School.


Qualifications:
  • Experience in food service operations, school nutrition programs, administration, or operational management preferred
  • Knowledge of USDA school nutrition regulations, procurement procedures, and food safety standards is preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other district software systems
  • Maintain excellent attendance
  • Ability to get along well with others
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in meetings as required
  • Oversee the functionality of the Coffee Cafe at the JR/SR High School
  • Promote a positive and professional image of the district at all times
  • Follow all rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines of Fairfield Community Schools
  • Other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or supervisor
Oversight and Management:
  • Provide overall management and direction for district food service operations
  • Monitor the coffee cafe and kitchen performances, efficiency, sanitation, and operational effectiveness
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, USDA guidelines, health department regulations, procurement standards, and all applicable federal and state laws
  • Conduct annual onsite reviews of kitchen operations and food service programs
  • Identify operational concerns and coordinate corrective action plans when necessary
Communication and Coordination:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for school kitchens regarding operational issues and concerns

    Example: If milk or food deliveries are not received, the kitchen staff should first contact the designated district point person. If the issue cannot be resolved internally, the point person will then coordinate with the consultant.
  • Facilitate communication between schools, families, vendors, and district administration regarding food service operations
  • Provide timely operational updates and feedback to the food service consultant
  • Prepare and coordinate all food service-related board communications, reports, and presentations
  • Participate in weekly virtual meetings with the consultant
  • Attend monthly procurement meetings and assist with related documentation and compliance requirements
Resource Allocation and Operational Support:
  • Provide necessary operational resources and administrative support to the consultant and kitchen teams
  • Ensure timely processing and payment of invoices and vendor obligations
  • Assist with budgeting and operational planning as assigned
Access and Permissions:
  • Grant access to district facilities, records, and operational data as appropriate and authorized
  • Obtain and maintain necessary permits, approvals, and operational documentation required for food service operations
Staffing and Training:
  • Oversee staffing functions related to food service operations, including hiring, onboarding, evaluation, discipline, and termination of staff in accordance with district policies and employment laws
  • Support employee training initiatives and ensure staff compliance with operational and safety standards
  • Promote a positive, professional, and collaborative work environment
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed
  • Ability to travel between district facilities and school locations
  • Ability to work in office and kitchen environments
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Have at least a high school diploma or GED
  • Current ServSafe Certification required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
  • Complete and pass an Expanded Criminal background and CPS Check
Compensation:
  • Competitive pay based upon experience
Contracted days:
  • 180 school days plus any required classified staff workdays per school year

Hours:

8 hours per day/40 hours per week

Reports to: Building Principal and/or Building Supervisor and Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent
