Senior Department of Defense Writing Expert for AI Training [Remote]

Apply Department of Defense staff writing expertise to create high-quality, real-world inputs that train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. As a contractor working remotely from the United States, you will produce authentic DoD-style reports, design grading rubrics, and craft prompts and golden responses that reflect DoD standards. No prior experience in AI is required.

• Develop well-structured prompts, input artifacts, and golden responses for DoD staff writing tasks, including Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, executive summaries, and performance reports.
• Create grading guidelines and rubrics to evaluate and score AI-generated outputs for accuracy, tone, compliance, and alignment with DoD expectations.
• Produce authentic report artifacts that reflect the style, structure, and language used in real-world DoD operational and administrative documentation.
• Contribute to the design and review of evaluation and test materials that assess AI abilities to summarize and report on tasks performed by federal personnel.
• Participate in iterative feedback cycles to refine prompts, responses, and grading rubrics based on project needs and model performance.
• Use back-office and communication experience to simulate weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reporting formats familiar to federal organizations.

• Minimum 3 years of relevant DoD or federal staff writing experience, preferably as a former federal contributor to the Department of Defense.
• Proven experience producing key reporting artifacts such as Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, executive summaries, and similar formats.
• Strong skills in military writing and federal documentation standards, including report generation and evaluation.
• Experience developing grading rubrics or other evaluation frameworks for written products.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and ability to match audience-appropriate language.
• Familiarity with DoD procedures, terminology, and federal compliance and reporting requirements.
• Experience with back-office tools and deliverables, including PowerPoint briefings, memos, and Excel summaries.
• Analytical ability to evaluate and provide constructive feedback on AI-generated staff writing outputs.
• Background in one of the six branches of the U.S. military, and diverse experience across roles or units, is preferred but not required.

• Engagement type: Contractor, independent contractor relationship.
• Location: Remote, United States only. Candidates must be based in the U.S.
• Work format: Collaborative remote work, including producing artifacts and participating in feedback cycles.
• Expectations include the ability to simulate and produce weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reporting formats used by federal organizations.

$40.00 to $80.00 per hour.

• Must be U.S.-based and familiar with federal compliance, reporting requirements, and DoD-specific workflows and terminology.
• No prior AI experience is required, the role prioritizes domain knowledge in DoD staff writing.
