Certified Medical AssistantMidland Community Healthcare Services, Inc. is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for the Coleman / Women's Services / Pediatrics department in Midland, Texas. This position reports to the Clinic Manager or Charge Nurse and is classified as non-exempt under the OES code 31-9092.The Certified Medical Assistant plays an important supporting role to the staff and patients of Midland Community Healthcare Services. They are expected to provide excellent customer service while performing tasks such as taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medication as directed by physicians.Job duties include:Interviewing patients to obtain medical histories, vital statistics, weight, height, blood pressure, temperature, and any other relevant information.Reviewing records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations.Preparing treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.Cleaning and sterilizing instruments and disposing of contaminated supplies in accordance with OSHA and clinic policy.Participating in cross-training opportunities to help other departments as needed.Preparing and administering medication, immunizations, shots, and vaccines as directed by a physician.Educating patients regarding treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician's instructions.Collecting blood via finger stick, urine, fecal, cultures, and other laboratory specimens, logging the specimens, and preparing them for laboratory testing through the proper vendor procedure.Assisting physicians as needed in examining and treating patients during procedures, ensuring that proper tools and supplies are available.Maintaining patient charts in the electronic medical record system, ensuring accuracy of the patient record.Updating patient records as required.Sending patient correspondence as required through clinic procedure.Maintaining clinical supplies through the proper procurement procedure.Assisting in maintaining proper stock and inventory of medical supplies.Assisting in quality improvement, auditing, safety, and compliance measures of the organization.Performing other duties as assigned by Clinic Manager and/or Charge Nurse.Critical skills and abilities include:Customer service oriented.Oral comprehension, expression, recognition, and clarity.Written comprehension and expression.Computer & technology skills – the ability to type, navigate, and utilize Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn to navigate and utilize proprietary medical software packages.Time management – the ability to prioritize tasks in order to best serve the patient and the flow of the clinic.Cultural competency – the ability to deal with people of various cultures and social status, as well as outside entities.Qualification requirements include:Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.1 – 3 years of customer service experience preferred.1 – 3 years of medical assisting experience preferred.Medical Assistant Certificate from a recognized institution. Certificate must be kept up to date.No felony results on a criminal background screening.Drug Screen Test with a negative result.Training required includes:Certified Medical Assistants must complete all the education and training modules on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website and print out the certificate of training for each module. They must also be checked off on injection skills as per company policy. The website for the training modules is as follows: environment/conditions include:BBP Class I: This position includes routine duties that are prone to bloodborne pathogen exposure. These employees will receive personal protective equipment training, bloodborne pathogen standard training, and learn safety precautions. Employees in this class will be offered vaccination provided by Midland Community Healthcare Services.Physical Demand: Ability to interact with patients and operate office equipment for patient services. Employees will need the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, or more, independently as necessary. Vision abilities are required to read and verify patient information, to read information on medical records, and read information on computer systems.Writing, speaking, and typing abilities are required in order to interview and triage the patient then document information in the electronic medical charts. Ability to pull, push, lift, and manipulate equipment and files. The ability to move freely about the front office and medical record areas in order to perform the job duties is required.
