Part-Time Recreation Specialist - Athletics

Position Information This position is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the quality and safety of various parks, leagues, and facilities within Cobb County. The incumbent serves as the primary point of contact for facility users, athletic associations, and league participants after business hours. Responsibilities Monitor park operations, make rounds to assess facility usage and conditions, and check concessions. Perform administrative tasks related to participant registration, court reservations, and tournament scheduling. Supervise and scorekeep adult athletic leagues—including Softball, Basketball, Flag Football, Kickball, Ultimate Frisbee, Cornhole, Volleyball, Pickleball, Golf, and Spikeball. Coordinate league games, oversee rule compliance, submit game scores, and facilitate set‑up and take‑down for league games. Work with rentals and tournament directors at the Al Bishop Complex; open and close the facility during league games and tournaments. Assist with special events, community programs, recreation centers, tennis centers, aquatic centers, and other PARKS units as needed. Provide customer service functions: give information on services, respond to routine questions and complaints, research problems, and refer issues to appropriate personnel. Process participant registrations, court reservations, and tournament registrations; review forms, enter data into online databases, collect fees, and maintain documentation. Prepare daily financial reports and deposits: count monies, balance cash drawers, audit transactions, close out cash drawers, and submit deposits. Promote recreational programming and events by creating and publishing promotional materials such as schedules, news releases, flyers, brochures, posters, signs, website updates, and social media posts. Provide administrative support: conduct tours, attend meetings, answer phones, prepare reports, memos, correspondence, and maintain inventory of supplies, forms, and equipment. Prepare facilities as per daily schedule: open and close facility, unlock and lock doors, control lighting, disarm and arm alarms, move and set up tables and chairs, and perform routine cleaning duties. Organize, instruct, and supervise recreational activities—including youth programs, senior programs, special needs programs, fitness classes, sports leagues, clinics, after‑school and summer programs, arts and crafts, performing arts, and nature programs—to gather supplies, verify required forms, teach classes, conduct assessments, and ensure compliance with rules, policies, procedures, and safety standards. Perform other related duties as assigned. Reporting Structure The Athletics position may report to various parks or facilities within Cobb County based on league and event schedules. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Vocational or technical training in customer service or a related field supplemented by two years of customer service experience. Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Physical Abilities Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of light‑weight objects (5‑10 pounds) and extended periods at a keyboard or workstation. Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
