The CNC Machinist supports production by operating complex five‑axis Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment, preparing tooling and materials, managing efficient machine setups, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. The role works closely with programmers and management to prioritize work, minimize setup times, and ensure high-quality, conforming components that meet customer requirements and support product safety.

Schedule

• This shift follows a 2nd shift schedule: Monday - Friday 5:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m. 

Responsibilities

• Maintains and implements AS9100 procedures and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
• Performs general maintenance and cleaning of CNC machines.
• Cleans and properly stores machine fixtures.
• Works with management to prioritize the machine schedule.
• Collaborates with programmers to minimize setup and manufacturing time.
• Orders cutters and tooling required to support manufacturing.
• Operates CNC machines to manufacture components.
• Reports recommendations or concerns affecting quality or time management to management.
• Evaluates potential impacts of product failures on customer requirements.
• Performs additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Adequate years of CNC equipment operation experience as determined by Karman.
• Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
• Experience with Siemens 840D and Fanuc 31i-B5 controls.
• Strong blueprint interpretation skills.
• Thorough understanding of machine setups, tooling, and cutters.
• Ability to communicate directly with internal customers.
• Training in applicable changes and customer requirements.
• Knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) reporting, record keeping, and process adherence.

Physical Requirements

• Constant standing, walking, or sitting for at least eight hours.
• Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying up to 50 pounds, minimum of 35 pounds.
• Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate keyboards and other equipment.
• Ability to see clearly at approximately 20 inches or less; corrective lenses may be used.
• Prolonged periods of repetitive movement.
• Constant holding, grasping, turning, or handling with the hands.
• Occasional reaching overhead, at shoulder level, and below shoulder level.
