Social Worker

Position Summary The work of the full‑time Social Worker will be directed by the Lead MSW but administratively supervised by the Executive Director, Student Academic Success. The Social Worker works to improve student success through intentional and functional social support programming, connecting students with community and college resources, implementing case management and outcomes‑based processes, advocating for student concerns, participating in college committees and initiatives, keeping abreast of new research, facilitating emergency funding, guiding interns, work‑study students and volunteers, and performing other related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements A Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or closely related field is required. Must be a fully Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Michigan. An LLMSW or LLPC will be considered, provided full licensing in Michigan within 24 months of hire. At least two years’ successful experience in providing social work services, including casework, case management, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention; successful experience delivering human services as a member of a team; demonstrated commitment to the success of economically disadvantaged and/or marginalized people. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Must have good presentation skills. Ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner when in contact with the public, fellow MCC employees, and students. Experience using Google Suites and other computer applications. Must conduct themselves in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers, assuring confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive records. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Travel may be required. Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license with a three‑year safe driving record and provide their own transportation. As required, complete records and other documentation in a timely manner. Must be able to move materials weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to work independently, under direction, and as a team member. Must be able to multitask and prioritize duties as they arise. Must be able to work under stress and/or meet rigorous deadlines. Additional Desirable Qualifications Fully Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Michigan. Knowledge of local social well‑being resources in Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee counties. Experience supervising employees, interns, and/or volunteers. Experience teaching and/or delivering social services in a college environment. Other experience working in higher education. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Lift 5–10 pounds. Work in an office environment involving frequent standing and sitting. Work Schedule Full‑time position (40 hours a week). The employee must work the hours necessary to fulfill the functions and roles of this position and may be required to occasionally perform work during evenings and weekends.
