Job Description

Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

Assists nursing staff in direct patient care, including preparation, transport, positioning, and draping of patients for surgery. Monitors and accounts for instruments, sponges, and supplies throughout each procedure to ensure patient safety. Verifies that surgical instruments and equipment are functioning properly and promptly reports or addresses any issues. Contributes to a safe and supportive environment by adhering to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards. Collaborates with the sterile processing team to decontaminate, prepare, and sterilize surgical instruments and supplies. Anticipates the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently during procedures while maintaining strict sterile technique. Prepares the operating room by setting up sterile fields with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies tailored to each case. Handles, labels, and processes surgical specimens according to established protocols for safe and accurate delivery to the laboratory. Precept and mentor new staff members, fostering skill development and support orientation and onboarding.

Education and Certification Requirements

Accredited Program: Surgical Technologist (Required) BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS American Heart RQI E-Card (BLS AHA-RQI ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE), BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)

Additional Job Information

Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision with a positive disposition. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required Work Experience: One (1) year of experience required. Other Information: Certified Surgical Technologist certification (CST or TS-C) is preferred.
