Lead Security Supervisor

Job Requirements Provides strategic and operational leadership for campus-wide security and safety functions across the medical center. This role oversees daily security operations, ensures adherence to regulatory and legal requirements, and supports a culture of safety, service, and accountability. The Security Supervisor leads security personnel, coordinates responses to critical incidents, and partners with clinical teams, hospital leadership, and external agencies to maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position also contributes to policy development, risk mitigation planning, and systemwide safety initiatives, serving as a key resource in emergency management, incident command support, and continuous improvement of hospital security programs. The Security Supervisor leads security personnel, coordinates responses to critical incidents, and partners with clinical teams, hospital leadership, and external agencies to maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Primary Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. Provide daily supervision, leadership, and coaching to security staff, ensuring consistent performance and adherence to departmental standards. Supports hospital-wide security operations, including patrol coverage, post compliance, officer deployment, and unit readiness. Serve as primary incident commander during complex or high-risk events such as violent incidents, major hospital codes, threats to safety, and large-scale disturbances. Review and approve incident reports, shift summaries, and investigative documentation to ensure accuracy, quality, and appropriate escalation. Conduct inspections of fixed posts, access points, and high-risk units to ensure operational integrity and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Lead preliminary and advanced investigations, including evidence collection, interviews, interdepartmental coordination, and multi-shift follow-through. Oversee staffing levels and coverage needs, supporting shift scheduling strategies to maintain adequate operational resources. Identify performance gaps, provide constructive feedback, and support corrective or developmental actions as needed. Monitor security technology systems (VMS/CCTV, access control, radios, alarms, weapons detection) and notify leadership of system issues, risks, or failures. Build effective working relationships with clinical teams, hospital leadership, Facilities, Emergency Management, and external agencies such as police, fire, and EMS. Assist in developing, implementing, and updating security SOPs, post orders, operational guides, and workflow improvements. Conduct shift briefings for Sergeants, communicating organizational priorities, risk advisories, key alerts, and operational updates. Participate in readiness and compliance activities, including Joint Commission preparation, safety audits, and regulatory reviews. Support leadership with data collection, trend analysis, incident tracking, program audits, and preparation of operational performance metrics. Serve as acting leader during assigned periods or in the absence of other departmental leadership. Perform all other duties as assigned. Work Experience Education & Experience - Required High school diploma or equivalent (GED) Five (5) years security experience. Two (2) years lead or supervisor experience Completion of an approved de-escalation course on crisis intervention required within 90 days from starting in position. Valid driver's license is required for all individuals hired into this role on or after April 1, 2026. Education & Experience - Preferred Heart Saver, CPR, Stop the Bleed and/or Narcan training Hospital or healthcare experience Experience with security technology systems (VMS, access control, alarms). Certification in healthcare security (i.e., Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO)) or other related security certifications. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Advanced knowledge of security operations, emergency response, and behavioral threat management. Strong leadership, team building, and conflict-resolution abilities. Skilled in de-escalation, crisis management, and decision-making under pressure. Strong administrative and analytical abilities, including incident review and quality assurance. Ability to interpret policies, evaluate operational gaps, and recommend corrective actions. Strong communication skills for interaction with leadership, clinical partners, and outside agencies.
