Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Specialist - 1st shift M-F - $25-30/hr

Job Description

The Shipping and Receiving Specialist plays a key role in ensuring materials and finished products move accurately and efficiently through a clean, well-organized warehouse and yard. You will handle inbound and outbound shipments, maintain accurate inventory records, and stage materials to keep production running smoothly. This role requires strong attention to detail, safe forklift operation, and a proactive mindset to stay ahead of production needs.

Responsibilities

• Follow all OSHA and company safety protocols and consistently use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Use proper material handling techniques for heavy and long parts, including safe team lifts when needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area by applying 5S and lean housekeeping practices.
• Report safety concerns and hazards immediately and comply with all company policies and regulations.
• Unload inbound trucks safely using a forklift and other appropriate equipment.
• Verify incoming deliveries against packing lists and purchase orders to ensure correct material, size, and quantities.
• Inspect steel and other materials for damage, measurement issues, or discrepancies and flag any issues promptly.
• Label all incoming material accurately and record it in the inventory system in a timely manner.
• Move material safely through the shop and yard, ensuring items are clearly labeled and properly strapped or secured.
• Keep the yard, storage racks, and staging areas organized so materials are easy to locate and access.
• Monitor the production schedule and proactively stage material at machines before operators need it.
• Pull and stage material for upcoming jobs while maintaining accurate inventory counts as material moves.
• Build secure shipments by stacking, banding, wrapping, and crating finished parts on pallets and skids according to packing standards.
• Verify shipment counts against packing slips before loading outbound trucks.
• Load outbound trucks safely and confirm all shipping paperwork is complete and accurate before drivers depart.
• Support accurate inventory management through careful data entry and use of ERP, MRP, or warehouse systems.
• Assist with warehouse packing, order picking, and order pulling as needed to support logistics operations.
• Help keep all shipping and receiving areas clean, organized, and safe at all times.
• Keep teammates, leads, and operations staff informed about material issues that could affect the production schedule.
• Collaborate daily with production operators, assembly teams, and operations staff, ensuring smooth material flow throughout the shop.

Essential Skills

• 35 years of experience in shipping and receiving, warehouse, or manufacturing operations, with a solid understanding of dock and shop floor processes.
• Proven experience in shipping and receiving, including handling inbound and outbound freight.
• Hands-on experience with material handling and large material handling in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Experience with inventory management, warehouse inventory, and inventory control processes.
• Ability to perform accurate data entry related to inventory, shipments, and logistics.
• Forklift experience with confidence operating in a warehouse and yard setting.
• Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification through on-the-job training.
• Experience using ERP, MRP, or warehouse management software for inventory and logistics tasks.
• Experience working with freight carriers and LTL shipping.
• Basic computer skills and the willingness to learn new software and systems.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and 5S principles.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on accurate counts, labels, and paperwork.
• Dependable work habits, including consistent punctuality and readiness to work each day.
• Clear and proactive communication skills, including the ability to speak up when something does not look right.
• Demonstrated ownership of work areas and responsibilities without needing constant direction.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
