HR Consultant (Contract)

Role Overview:

Meaningful Beginnings is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable HR Consultant to provide hands-on human resources support on a flexible, as-needed basis. This contractor will partner with leadership to strengthen people operations, support compliance, and help maintain a healthy, respectful workplace culture.

This role is well suited for an HR professional who enjoys supporting small organizations through practical, scalable HR solutions.

Scope of Work:

• Provide guidance on HR best practices, policies, and procedures in alignment with California employment laws.
• Support recruitment and onboarding needs, including compliance with employee file requirements.
• Assist with performance management practices, documentation, and improvement plans.
• Advise leadership on employee relations matters, offering clear and actionable recommendations.
• Conduct HR audits and identify compliance gaps or process improvement opportunities.
• Assist with developing and documenting HR processes to support organizational growth.
• Support DEI-informed practices that promote a welcoming and inclusive workplace.
• Conduct occasional on-site visits for tasks such as file audits, training, or advisory meetings.

Contractor Requirements:

• Proven experience in human resources, preferably within small business environments or early childhood education settings.
• Strong working knowledge of California employment laws, compliance requirements, and HR best practices.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
• Ability to work independently and provide practical, solutions-oriented guidance.
• Located in the San Francisco Bay Area for periodic on-site support.
• HR certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP is preferred but not required.

Contract Terms:

• 1099 Independent Contractor position; paid hourly or per project depending on scope.
• Flexible, part-time schedule determined by organizational needs.
• Contractor is responsible for all taxes, business insurance, equipment, and professional expenses.
