Assistant Meat Manager

Position Summary The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in leading all aspects of the meat department, ensuring high-quality products, food safety compliance, and outstanding customer service. This role assists in driving sales, managing inventory, controlling shrink, and developing a high-performing team while maintaining department standards. Key Responsibilities Operational Execution Assist in overseeing daily meat department operations including cutting, packaging, merchandising, and inventory control Ensure all products meet quality, freshness, and presentation standards Maintain proper rotation, labeling, and storage of all meat and seafood products Support ordering and receiving to maintain in-stock conditions while minimizing shrink Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and tools Customer Service Excellence Provide exceptional customer service and product knowledge Assist customers with custom cuts, special orders, and product recommendations Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally Promote department items through suggestive selling and seasonal offerings Team Leadership & Development Assist in hiring, training, and coaching meat department associates Provide performance feedback and reinforce company expectations Foster a safe, productive, and team-oriented work environment Support scheduling and labor planning to meet business needs Sales & Financial Performance Support achievement of department sales, margin, and shrink goals Execute merchandising plans, including displays and promotions Monitor waste and implement shrink reduction strategies Identify opportunities to improve sales and operational efficiency Food Safety & Compliance Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations Maintain proper temperature controls and logs for all meat products Enforce safe food handling practices and regulatory compliance Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous meat cutting, meat department, or related experience preferred Supervisory or leadership experience preferred Strong knowledge of meat products and food safety practices Excellent customer service and communication skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs; occasional heavier lifting with assistance Work in cold environments (coolers and freezers) Ability to safely use knives and meat processing equipment Key Competencies Customer Focus Food Safety & Quality Assurance Team Leadership Attention to Detail Time Management Problem Solving #J-18808-Ljbffr Tom Thumb Supermarket
