Project Manager, Mission-Critical Commissioning (Data Centers)

Although this opportunity is listed as remote to reach a national pool of mobile candidates, the assignment itself is site-based. The first project requires sustained onsite leadership in Georgia. Candidates should be prepared to establish a local base for the duration of the assignment and remain open to future long-term projects in Georgia or elsewhere across the Southern United States. The assignment An established, growing provider of mission-critical project services is adding a Project Manager to an active data center commissioning program. The engineering and field resources are already in place. The need is for one accountable leader who can create alignment around the client, the schedule, the team, the commercial picture, and successful turnover. This role sits between technical delivery and client leadership. You will not be expected to personally execute every test. You will be expected to understand the systems and sequence well enough to challenge the plan, recognise when a technical issue is becoming a business problem, and keep the right people moving towards a decision. Your mandate Bring structure and pace to several commissioning workstreams moving through interdependent milestones. Set the weekly and daily operating rhythm for readiness reviews, look-ahead planning, resource decisions, issue closure, reporting, and escalation. Integrate the work of the owner, design team, general contractor, trade partners, equipment manufacturers, controls vendors, commissioning specialists, and site operations. Keep the path from equipment verification and startup through functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, documentation, acceptance, and turnover coherent. Make ownership, due dates, constraints, and downstream consequences visible so unresolved items do not drift. Maintain the commercial health of the engagement through cost-to-complete visibility, resource planning, change control, and timely support for client billing. Be the client’s dependable day-to-day leadership contact, providing direct communication, sound judgment, and no-surprises escalation. Set priorities and accountability for commissioning engineers and technical leads while reinforcing safe work, complete documentation, and consistent quality. Spot interface problems, sequencing conflicts, staffing pressure, and hidden dependencies early enough to preserve major milestones. Turn lessons from the current assignment into better methods for the projects that follow. The background that will translate A record of leading data center commissioning or comparable mission-critical project delivery—not only supporting it. Experience across the commissioning lifecycle, ideally including L1-L5 environments or equivalent readiness, functional, integrated, and turnover phases. Practical fluency in critical electrical, mechanical, and controls systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, cooling systems, BMS/EPMS, and system integration. Direct responsibility for schedule, resource planning, cost performance, change, risk, contracts, and customer reporting. Enough technical credibility to lead specialists and test assumptions without taking the work away from the engineers. Strong judgment when priorities compete, information is incomplete, or field conditions change. Clear communication with field teams, senior leaders, clients, contractors, and equipment partners. Willingness to establish a local base in Georgia and later mobilise to other Southern U.S. assignments. Authorization to work in the United States.
