Summary
Purpose of Role: Supporting safe and effective transit operations by performing preventative and corrective maintenance on communication and fare systems. The full pay range for the position is $29.96 to $44.94 per hour with an anticipated starting rate between entry ($29.96) and midpoint ($37.45) of the range. It's essential to note that the actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on several factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, training and internal equity considerations.
This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to the Valley Metro RPTA's Drug and Alcohol Program.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in:
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a DOT physical examination. Drug Testing:
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug test. This safety-sensitive position is subject to the Valley Metro RPTA's Drug and Alcohol Program, including drug and alcohol testing as required by program policy. Background Investigation :
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background investigation. Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Arizona Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under Valley Metro's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
Position requires the incumbent to successfully qualify to operate light rail vehicles. Incumbent is required to obtain a Class B CDL permit within 90 days of attending New Employee Orientation and obtain a full Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Work Environment Work is performed in a combination of office/vehicle/outdoor setting with routine use of standard office and specialty equipment. This role typically requires sitting, handling, fine dexterity, visual acuity, hearing, speaking, walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, kneeling, bending, climbing, reaching, twisting, crouching, balancing, crawling, noisy/distracting environment, foot controls, time pressure, tedious or exacting work, changing of tasks, multi-tasking, emergency situation, irregular work schedule/overtime, noisy/distracting environment and working with others on a team. Valley Metro operates 24 hours/day and 365 days/year. This position must be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and odd and unusual hours or called in on days off to respond to emergencies outside, in all types of weather. - Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support network, communication, and fare collection systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Public Address (PA) systems, fiber optics, and network nodes.
- Maintain communication infrastructure and fare collection equipment, including variable message boards.
- Identify, gather, and test necessary parts; safely work with electricity; and operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment.
- Perform general cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of tools, parts, and equipment.
- Respond to emergencies and maintain detailed inspection, repair, and inventory records.
- Support cross-functional projects, system upgrades, and technology implementations to improve operations.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- Extensive understanding of SCADA system hardware theories.
- Advanced comprehension of network diagnostics methodologies.
- Thorough grasp of surveillance equipment maintenance processes.
- Detailed understanding of fare collection system operations procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of CCTV and PA system functionality theories.
- In-depth understanding of electrical safety procedures.
- Basic awareness of inventory control and parts tracking processes.
- Using a computer and related software.
- Inspecting communication and fare equipment accurately.
- Troubleshooting network and video system failures.
- Repairing SCADA-related devices efficiently.
- Maintaining tools and equipment in working condition.
- Responding to system alarms promptly.
- Updating maintenance logs consistently.
- Facilitating replacement parts inventory accurately.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to exchange information and receive work direction.
