Staff Psychologist - Behavioral Health Integrated Program

Summary The psychologist will be a key member of a Behavioral Health Integrated Program team (BHIP) providing outpatient psychological assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy to Veterans presenting with a broad spectrum of diagnoses—including depressive disorders, anxiety/trauma‑related conditions, and personality disorders. Experience in time‑limited evidence-based psychotherapy (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT) is preferred. Qualifications Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. Non‑citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with applicable regulations. English Language Proficiency: Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English. Education: Hold a doctoral degree in psychology from a program accredited by the APA or CPA at the time of completion. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment. Internships: Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA or CPA and consistent with the assignment. Acceptable alternate pathways are specified in the full qualification standard. Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: GS‑11 (Entry Level) candidates need no experience beyond basic requirements. GS‑12 candidates need at least one year of experience equivalent to GS‑11. GS‑13 candidates need at least two years of professional psychology experience, including one year at GS‑12 level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Apply a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods to diverse patient populations. Design and implement effective treatment strategies and incorporate new clinical procedures. Conduct research activities, including designing and implementing clinical research projects. Provide professional advice and consultation related to psychology and behavioral health. Understand clinical research literature. Preferred: Evidence-based and/or evidence-informed therapy experience. Duties Conduct psychological assessments, including clinical interviewing, objective and projective testing. Diagnose mental health disorders and provide evidence-based psychotherapy (individual and group). Provide treatment for mood, anxiety, PTSD, and personality disorders. Consult with medical center staff on patient care issues. May serve in program evaluation and/or research activities. Academic/teaching opportunities: May hold faculty appointment, provide training to PA students, psychiatry residents, family practice residents, and nursing students, and participate in the psychology training program and committee. Research and program evaluation: Assist in establishing program monitors, outcome measurements, and submit findings to scientific meetings. Other significant responsibilities: Attend weekly MH & BSS meetings and other treatment team meetings up to 5% of time; serve on committees and task forces; represent psychology in decision-making committees. Maintain timely clinical charting and documentation required by the ACC. Work Schedule and Compensation Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
