Pharmacy Technician Specialist (Medication Reconciliation)

A Brief Overview The Pharmacy Technician Specialist performs specialty functions, as assigned, in support of pharmacy operations and also performs the duties of a certified pharmacy technician in daily pharmacy operations as needed. This is a patient-facing role, primarily based in the emergency department, where the technician interviews admitted patients to discover and document a detailed medication history. What you will do Perform specialty functions in support of pharmacy operations, as assigned. Perform duties of a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Follow established procedures for medication safety, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures. Perform other job functions as assigned or requested. Education / Formal Training Requirements Required – High School Diploma or Equivalent. Preferred – Technical Degree or Diploma in Pharmacy Technician programs. Work Experience Requirements Required – Pharmacy technician 1–3 years experience. Licenses and Certifications Requirements Required – Certified Pharmacy Technician – Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Required – Pharmacy Technician – Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Pharmacy. Preferred – Pharmacy Technician – Mississippi – Mississippi Board of Pharmacy. Preferred – Certified Pharmacy Technician – ExCPT – National Healthcareer Association. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience with medication nomenclature and complex pharmaceutical calculations. Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers; communication often involves complex problem solving. Proficient in the use of pharmacy‑based computer systems as well as Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as indicated in the specific function within the department. Must be able to effectively organize, budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision. Physical Demands The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position may vary depending on the specialty assignment; work may include exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading. Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact. May be exposed to patient body fluids and diseases, as well as hazardous or poisonous materials.
