Job Description Are you looking for an exciting opportunity with a rapidly growing pharmaceutical manufacturer? If so, this is the opportunity for you! Under the supervision of the Maintenance and Utilities Supervisor and direction of the maintenance team leader, the HVAC mechanic installs, maintains, operates, calibrates, repairs, and troubleshoots refrigeration, air conditioning and air volume equipment and associated control systems. The role ensures compliance with operating procedures, company and government regulations, and current Good Manufacturing Practices, and upholds the highest quality standards of our products and services. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, calibrate, repair/overhaul, and operate HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including compressors, pumps, evaporators, expansion valves, solenoid valves, and all related controls. Ensure compliance with CFC‑related regulations; minimize losses and maximize recovery through leak detection, reclaiming, recycling, and recovery equipment. Troubleshoot and adjust HVAC systems and air volume control equipment to maintain proper temperature, humidity, and airflow. Monitor pressure drop of HVAC filters and replace as necessary; clean coils, evaporators, and condensers with chemicals, air, or high‑pressure wash units. Utilize Building Automation Systems (BAS) to monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain system performance; respond to alarms and prioritize actions. Work from work orders and preventive maintenance checklists, maintain accurate records, and document activities in a cGMP‑compliant manner. Provide routine rigging, alignment work, and recovery, recycling, and reclaiming operations to minimize refrigerant environmental impact. Complete departmental training, attend HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, Kaizen events, and other continuous improvement initiatives. Assist in labor and material estimate preparation, scheduling, and parts ordering. Communicate effectively with supervisors, technicians, and planners regarding equipment status and work requirements. Equipment Portable and fixed power and hand tools, oxy‑acetylene torch, chemical cleaning equipment, protective clothing and safety devices, gauge manifolds, electronic/electric/pneumatic measuring devices, two‑way radios, portable vacuum pumps, refrigerant/heat‑transfer/lubrication media containers and handling equipment, maintenance rigging equipment, BAS keyboard/CRI, and CFC leak detection, reclaiming, recycling, recovery systems. Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED and Universal Refrigerant Certification. At least three (3) years of recent full‑time experience as an HVAC/Refrigeration mechanic maintaining and troubleshooting commercial or industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and controls, including servicing 20‑Ton systems and interfacing with automated building/refrigeration controls. Alternative qualifications (selected): Completion of a formal Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic Apprentice Program approved by the United States Department of Labor or equivalent. Verified military training equivalent to a recognized trade school or journeyman apprenticeship program, with at least three (3) years of relevant experience. Experience of at least five (5) years under a trade school program with emphasis of at least 325 hours; ability to service 20‑Ton systems and automated controls. Ten (10) years of recent full‑time experience without formal education, with similar responsibilities. Desirable Qualifications Specific HVAC, Refrigeration, and/or Direct Digital Control vendor training programs. Recent experience maintaining centrifugal chillers, cascade refrigeration systems, screw compressors, and DOC systems. Proficiency in testing, adjusting, and balancing HVAC systems. Experience calibrating HVAC associated instrumentation. Special Skills or Abilities Ability to read refrigeration/HVAC drawings, electronic or pneumatic control schematics. Analytical problem‑solving skills and corrective action implementation. Proficiency with building automation systems, including uploading and downloading programs. Mechanical aptitude and readiness to handle lifting, chemicals, heat transfer media, dust, and confined spaces. Special Job Features Heavy lifting and handling of solvents, acids, and heat transfer media. Work in hot/cold environments, dust, confined spaces, roofs, and heights. Potential exposure to infectious agents and emergency call‑in duties. Possibility of carrying a pager or radio. Remarks Requires immunizations as prescribed by the company’s Health Services Department and must wear company‑issued uniform per SOP. The position is subject to a probationary period.
