Summary

The Director, Infrastructure is a senior technology leader responsible for the strategic planning, design, governance, implementation, security, availability, and continuous improvement of the firm's infrastructure and engineering systems. This role leads firmwide infrastructure strategy and operations across 60+ locations, ensuring secure, resilient, scalable, and cost-effective services that support attorneys, clients, administrative departments, and business operations. The Director partners closely with the CIO and IT leadership to translate firm strategy, client expectations, security requirements, and legal service delivery needs into a practical multi-year technology roadmap.

The Director provides leadership for infrastructure engineering and operations, services, data center and network operations, endpoint and collaboration platforms, service reliability, disaster recovery, vendor performance, managed service provider accountability, and modernization initiatives. The role is expected to maintain high availability and performance for mission-critical legal technology platforms, support secure adoption of cloud and AI-enabled productivity capabilities, and communicate effectively with executive, attorney, business services, technical, and vendor stakeholders. The position requires strong law firm or professional services judgment, strict confidentiality, operational discipline, and the ability to translate legal business needs into practical technology roadmaps and measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a multi-year infrastructure and cloud services roadmap aligned with the firm’s strategic priorities, risk posture, budget objectives, growth plans, and service expectations.
• Lead the design, governance, delivery, and ongoing support of core infrastructure services, including Microsoft cloud platforms, data centers, server and virtualization environments, storage, backup, disaster recovery, network, telephony, endpoint, collaboration, and hybrid connectivity.
• · Drive modernization of legacy systems and services toward secure, scalable, cloud-enabled, automated, and operationally sustainable platforms while maintaining appropriate controls for legal data, client confidentiality, retention, and compliance.
• Oversee Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Intune, Defender, Purview, and related firm-managed cloud services, with accountability for governance, configuration standards, performance, monitoring, cost management, licensing, and adoption planning.
• Ensure reliable, secure connectivity across all offices, remote users, and critical firm services through effective oversight of LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi, firewall, DNS, DHCP, identity, access management, and network segmentation practices.
• Establish and maintain infrastructure standards, operating practices, documentation requirements, service health metrics, KPIs, SLAs, and executive reporting that demonstrate platform reliability, user experience, operational risk, and progress against roadmap commitments.
• Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning for infrastructure services, including documented runbooks, recovery objectives, testing, remediation tracking, and reporting.
• Partner with Information Security, Records, Compliance, Applications, Practice Technology, Knowledge Management, Litigation Support, Training, Office Administration, and Service Desk teams to deliver integrated, reliable, and secure technology services.
• Support the technical readiness of new offices, major site expansions, integrations, and significant technology transitions, including connectivity, conference room technology, endpoint infrastructure, printing, telephony, documentation, cutover planning, and post-go-live stabilization.
• Ensure infrastructure and cloud platforms meet applicable cybersecurity specifications, firm policies, client requirements, legal industry expectations, audit needs, cyber insurance requirements, and regulatory obligations related to confidentiality, integrity, availability, and data protection.
• Participate in incident, problem, and change management practices, ensuring appropriate testing, communications, approvals, escalation, back-out planning, root-cause analysis, and post-implementation review.
• Lead, mentor, and develop internal team members and managed service resources, setting clear priorities, accountability, documentation expectations, service standards, and a culture of customer service, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
• Manage strategic vendors, managed service providers, contracts, service levels, renewals, performance reviews, licensing discussions, escalation processes, roadmap alignment, and ongoing accountability for service quality and cost effectiveness.
• Develop and manage infrastructure budgets in partnership with IT and Finance leadership, including capital planning, operating spend, forecasting, renewals, cost optimization, and business cases for major investments.
• Communicate risks, priorities, progress, service metrics, investment needs, and recommendations clearly to IT leadership, firm leadership, attorneys, business stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive IT experience across infrastructure, cloud, network, enterprise operations, or related technology services, including significant experience leading teams, programs, vendors, or managed services.
• 5+ years in a leadership role with responsibility for strategic planning, people leadership, service delivery, budgets, vendor management, project execution, and operational accountability.
• Experience in a law firm, legal services organization, or professional services environment strongly preferred, with demonstrated appreciation for confidentiality, client service, time-sensitive workflows, and risk-sensitive technology operations.
• Demonstrated experience supporting mission-critical business technology environments, including document management, collaboration, secure file sharing, practice management, eDiscovery, records, or related legal business platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft cloud services, Azure/hybrid cloud, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, identity and access management, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, Defender, Purview, Windows Server, virtualization, storage, backup, networking, and data center operations.
• Proven ability to develop and execute multi-year roadmaps, enterprise standards, cloud governance models, operational runbooks, disaster recovery plans, and modernization initiatives.
• Strong understanding of ITIL/ITSM practices, including incident, problem, change, asset, configuration, service level, and knowledge management.
• Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and operational demands across a large multi-office environment while maintaining service quality, documentation, risk visibility, and executive-level communication.
• Proven ability to work effectively with executives, attorneys, business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and managed service providers.
• Strong judgment, critical thinking, financial discipline, and ability to connect technology decisions to business outcomes, client service, security, risk reduction, and operational resiliency.

For NY Metro, San Francisco Metro and Los Angeles Metro area, the expected salary range for this position is between $216,250,000 and $252,250. This position is also eligible for annual bonuses. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

For Illinois, the expected salary range for this position is between $198,250 and $231,250. This position is also eligible for annual bonuses. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
