Maintenance Technician III

Diversified Personnel Services (DPS) is recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Technician III. This advanced-level position is responsible for independently diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and improving mechanical, electrical, and automated production systems.

The Maintenance Technician III will work closely with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to reduce downtime, improve equipment performance, and support reliability-centered maintenance initiatives. This position will also provide technical guidance and hands-on training to less-experienced technicians.

What You'll Do

Mechanical Maintenance

• Diagnose and repair motors, gearboxes, conveyors, material-handling systems, and other industrial equipment.
• Perform complete mechanical rebuilds, including shaft alignments and bearing fits.
• Replace bearings, belts, couplings, and drive components.
• Inspect equipment for wear, damage, and potential failures.
• Fabricate and modify components and equipment guards using welding, machining, and cutting tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.

Electrical Systems

• Independently troubleshoot and repair electrical systems up to 480VAC.
• Diagnose control circuits, motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and motor-control systems.
• Test and replace contactors, transformers, overloads, fuses, and circuit-protection devices.
• Use multimeters and other testing equipment to identify electrical faults.
• Inspect electrical panels and wiring for damage, wear, and unsafe conditions.

Automation and Controls

• Troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs), review logic, and perform input/output (I/O) diagnostics.
• Calibrate instrumentation and perform loop checks on sensors and transmitters.
• Partner with automation and engineering teams to improve system performance and minimize downtime.

Facility and Infrastructure Maintenance

• Perform maintenance and repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, lighting, carpentry, painting, and general facility systems.
• Support dock equipment, fire-protection systems, security systems, and other building infrastructure.
• Maintain material-handling machinery and other mobile equipment.
• Assist with equipment installations, office renovations, and contractor or vendor coordination.

Safety, Documentation, and Leadership

• Follow OSHA, Arc Flash, Lockout/Tagout, and company safety requirements.
• Lead job-safety briefings and reinforce safe work practices.
• Document maintenance work, downtime, and parts usage in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and help implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Train and mentor junior technicians.
• Coordinate smaller maintenance projects and participate in safety and continuous-improvement teams.

What You'll Bring

• High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma preferred.
• Five to seven years of industrial maintenance experience involving mechanical, electrical, automation, and production equipment.
• Ability to independently diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical systems up to 480VAC.
• Working knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and industrial automation.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, technical manuals, and parts diagrams.
• Experience using mechanical and electrical diagnostic tools.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Windows and CMMS software.
• Ability to guide junior technicians, communicate technical information clearly, and work effectively with production and engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving, math, documentation, and organizational skills.

• Electrical safety certification
• Lockout/Tagout and Arc Flash training
• Intermediate PLC programming training
• EPA Section 608 HVAC certification
• Welding certification
• Forklift and aerial-lift certification
• OSHA 10 certification
• CMMS training

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and the manual dexterity needed to work with tools and small components. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work around moving machinery, moderate noise, and occasional heights.

Required personal protective equipment may include safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.

Required Experience

5-7 years: Direct maintenance experience within a manufacturing or production environment
