This role is a high-volume, production welding position in a very fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will perform pulse MIG welding on mild steel throughout the day, using weld fixtures and weld symbols to complete units within defined cycle times. Welders average 2,000–2,500 welds per day, so consistency, speed, and quality are essential. Cosmetic welds must be highly uniform, and you will work as part of a coordinated weld cell where productivity is measured at the cell level rather than individually.

Responsibilities

• Perform pulse MIG welding on mild steel components in a high-volume, production environment.
• Use weld fixtures and weld symbols to complete assigned portions of each unit within established time standards.
• Load metal parts onto fixtures, accurately position components, and secure them for welding.
• Execute consistent, high-quality cosmetic welds that meet visual and structural requirements.
• Unload completed parts from fixtures and pass units along to the next welder in the production sequence.
• Follow production welding processes and fabrication procedures to maintain throughput and quality targets.
• Read and interpret weld symbols, basic blueprints, and work instructions to determine weld type, location, and sequence.
• Maintain steady welding performance across MIG, TIG, or pulse processes as required by production needs.
• Lift and move materials and components up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Work safely in a hot, physically demanding environment that requires bending, twisting, and lifting throughout the day.
• Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment, including weld helmet, gloves, weld jacket, steel toe boots, and ear plugs.
• Support team-based productivity by contributing to the overall performance of the weld cell.
• Adhere to strict attendance expectations, including limits on absenteeism and tardiness, to maintain production reliability.
• Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards to keep the work area organized and compliant.

• Proven ability to perform consistent, steady welding using MIG, TIG, or pulse welding processes.
• Experience with MIG welding in a production or fabrication environment.
• Ability to perform pulse welding on mild steel with a focus on repeatable, cosmetic weld quality.
• Skill in reading and interpreting weld symbols to determine correct weld type and placement.
• Basic blueprint and fabrication understanding to follow production instructions accurately.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.
• Comfort working in a hot, physically demanding environment with continuous bending, twisting, and lifting.
• Strong memorization skills to retain weld sequences, fixture setups, and process steps.
• Reliability and punctuality with the ability to meet strict attendance requirements.
• Commitment to using required PPE, including weld helmet, gloves, weld jacket, steel toe boots, and ear plugs.

• Prior experience in production welding environments with high daily weld counts.
• Background in fabrication and production processes involving fixtures and weld cells.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based weld cell where output is measured collectively.
• Attention to detail and focus on cosmetic weld consistency across large volumes of work.
• Strong work ethic and ability to maintain productivity and quality under time constraints.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that is not air conditioned and can become hot, especially during warmer months. The work is highly physical and production-focused, involving bending, twisting, and lifting throughout the day while performing welding tasks. You will work within a weld cell structure where productivity is measured at the cell level, emphasizing teamwork and coordinated output. The environment requires strict adherence to attendance standards, with limited allowable occurrences for absenteeism or tardiness, and any attendance issues in the first 30 days may lead to termination. Required attire includes a weld helmet, gloves, weld jacket, steel toe boots, and ear plugs, reflecting the emphasis on safety and protection in an active industrial setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Owatonna, MN.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Owatonna,MN.
