Provide direct or indirect professional nursing services in assigned settings Perform nursing assessments, planning, interventions, evaluations, health education, case management, and prescribed medication and treatment administration Assess health status and develop and implement nursing interventions Evaluate health resources needed to meet individual, family, and community health needs Deliver professional nursing care in an assigned unit, clinic, home, or other setting Educate individuals, families, communities, and health care team members about disease prevention and health promotion Supervise professional or paraprofessional personnel and collaborate with other health care professionals Delegate tasks consistent with educational preparation and the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act Assure quality health care through record review, peer review, direct observation, and outcome assessment Perform specialized nursing functions and other related duties Handle complex assignments with substantial responsibility and independence Develop and present nursing education programs and evaluate learning Complete quality improvement, mentoring, and patient-care surveillance assignments Schedule work assignments, evaluate assigned staff performance, provide training, and ensure quality Approve leave and initiate disciplinary actions when assigned Coordinate health services or provide nursing care within an assigned county or geographic area Act for nurse managers in their absence Requirements Possession of a valid Oklahoma license as a registered nurse approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and two years of professional nursing experience; or a Registered Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) and two years of professional nursing experience Professional nursing experience in a field appropriate to the health care setting Sufficient proficiency in the English language to perform the essential functions of the position Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, and techniques Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention Knowledge of nursing management of available health care resources Knowledge of nutrition and diet therapy Knowledge of clinical departments, health programs and resources, and federal and state health-services rules and regulations Knowledge of accreditation, certification, and licensure standards Knowledge of preventive health practices, teaching methods, nursing standards, policies, and procedures Ability to develop, organize, and implement effective nursing care plans and programs Ability to provide education and training Ability to assess patients, families, and communities and take appropriate intervention Ability to counsel and teach patients and families Ability to direct or guide non-licensed personnel to ensure quality care Some positions may be safety sensitive under 63 O.S. § 427.8 Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in nursing assessments, care planning, and health education while ensuring compliance with the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
