Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Pass/Fail exam during orientation. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Description: RNs will be required to pass an exam during orientation. The exam is open book and covers skills learned, with all necessary resources provided. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass. Candidates must not be full time, part time, or PRN with any associated facility. A driver's license is necessary to determine distance eligibility. Department focuses on MedSurg and Telemetry neuro patients. Patients may include those with strokes, stable neurological deficits, and post-neurosurgery procedures. RNs may also care for general MedSurg overflow patients. Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, COPD exacerbation, and cellulitis. RNs will titrate drips including heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine. Charge nurses are present on each shift and take an assignment. Patient care techs are available, with a ratio of 1:10-20. Telemetry techs interpret strips, while RNs should have tele awareness. Shifts are typically scheduled from 0630-1900 or 1830-0700. A limited amount of block scheduling may be approved. Weekend requirements include at least every other weekend, with additional shifts as needed. Holiday requirements include 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years. Floating to other medical surgical areas may be required based on patient needs. Scrubs are navy blue, not provided. The unit emphasizes hourly rounding and responsiveness. Successful nurses are team players and demonstrate compassion for patients. The patient population is diverse, serving individuals from various cultural backgrounds. Cancellation policy allows the facility to cancel up to 4 shifts per assignment. Charting is done using the EPIC system. A BSN is not required. This is an acute care setting. Candidates should be committed to providing high-quality patient care.
