CBI Program Assistant (Forensic Services) Grand Junction

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Forensic Services operates four forensic science laboratories across the state. The Program Assistant I supports day‑to‑day operations, ensuring accurate and timely data management, customer service, and fiscal oversight to assist forensic scientists, technicians, and management. Work Environment Office‑based, sedentary work with occasional travel for statewide events. Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, in person. Key Responsibilities Casework and Discovery Support: Manage discovery requests, enter case data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), coordinate with District Attorney’s offices and law enforcement, and maintain confidentiality of case information. Program Support: Maintain laboratory asset inventory, coordinate vendor scheduling and travel, process incoming mail, order supplies, update SharePoint and Qualtrax with staff information, compose correspondence, and support training registration. Fiscal Support: Follow purchasing procedures, create purchase requests, manage invoices, maintain budget records, and assist with grant management. Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of administrative, clerical, or office support experience, including data entry, records management, scheduling, or customer service. OR a combination of experience equal to four (4) years. Education can substitute for work experience; an unofficial transcript of the relevant education must be provided. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a law enforcement agency, forensic laboratory, legal setting, or other public safety environment. Experience maintaining case files, evidence logs, or using records management systems (RMS/LIMS). Experience working with sensitive, confidential, or legally protected information. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and Google products; familiarity with specialized databases or tracking systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated accuracy in handling large volumes of data with strong attention to detail. Required Competencies Active Listening – giving full attention, asking questions, and not interrupting. Conditions of Employment Must be a Colorado resident at the time of application. Successful completion of a background investigation, polygraph exam, driving history, Personnel Evaluation Program (PEP) assessment, fingerprint‑based criminal history search, and a drug test.
