Specimen Processing - Specimen Technician

Job Title

Job Overview: Pay Range: $17.20hr - $17.87hr

Requirement/Must Have

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
• Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work in a biohazard environment while following safety protocols.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to work night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call schedules as required.

Experience

• No prior experience required.
• Preferred experience in laboratory specimen processing or clinical laboratory environments.
• Preferred medical background with knowledge of medical terminology.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus.
• Previous experience in a production or high-volume work environment preferred.
• Experience handling data entry and quality-focused tasks preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
• Handle specimen processing activities including presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and microfilming.
• Perform pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Accurately enter and process specimen-related data promptly.
• Learn and understand the specimen types associated with ordered laboratory tests.
• Follow compliance regulations related to laboratory test ordering and specimen handling.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards within departmental timelines.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of laboratory and support staff.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Follow safety, compliance, and operational procedures consistently.
• Adapt to changing workflows, customer demands, and operational priorities.
• Support customer satisfaction through accurate and timely specimen processing activities.
