Software Development Engineer — GPU Acceleration and Video Rendering Platform

Role Description

The Digital Video & Audio (DVA) team in Adobe develops industry-leading software products including Premiere and After Effects. We are looking for a senior, hands-on engineer to own and evolve the cross-platform GPU rendering platform.

• Build and own GPU-accelerated video effects, transitions, and rendering features across Adobe's professional video applications.
• Design, implement, and productize high-performance GPU components (CUDA, Metal, OpenCL) for the video processing and rendering pipeline.
• Profile and optimize GPU rendering performance — pinpoint bottlenecks in compute kernels, memory transfers, and the render graph.
• Harden pipeline stability and correctness — root-cause and fix complex GPU, driver, memory, and platform-specific defects.
• Establish and maintain performance and stability benchmarks; detect and prevent regressions across releases, GPU vendors, and driver versions.
• Own the end-to-end integration of in-house and third-party effects plugins.
• Ensure consistent quality, performance, and scalability across GPU hardware (NVIDIA, AMD, Apple Silicon) and operating systems (macOS, Windows).
• Own the release process for your areas — build shepherding, QE coordination, and triage of release-blocking issues.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of owning components or features end-to-end.
• Strong proficiency in C++, working in large and complex cross-platform codebases (macOS and Windows).
• GPU programming skills with working knowledge of CUDA, Metal, and OpenCL.
• Strong knowledge of modern GPU and parallel processing paradigms.
• Knowledge of video/image processing, including pixel formats and color-pipeline fundamentals.
• Experience with effects/plugin architecture and host-application integration.
• Strong debugging skills — able to root-cause complex issues across CPU/GPU and platform boundaries.
• Ability to evaluate architectural tradeoffs, write clear design proposals, and drive them through review.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working in a global environment.
• Ability to think creatively to solve complex problems.
