Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown/PCU night shift position requiring an IA or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.

Details

Stepdown/PCU unit in an acute care hospital setting, Trauma Level 3

22-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio

Common diagnoses include heart failure, AFib, respiratory distress, and stroke

RNs required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitro

Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a full patient assignment

Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio

RNs must troubleshoot CPAP equipment

RNs required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips

12-hour night shifts, cyclic scheduling (0630-1900 or 1830-0700)

Every other weekend required

Holiday coverage includes 1 major and 1 minor holiday

May float to ICU if appropriately experienced

Uses EPIC EMR

Fast-paced unit with frequent admissions and discharges

Requirements

Active IA or compact RN license required

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Acute care stepdown/PCU experience required

EPIC EMR experience preferred

Driver's license required for consideration

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments

Additional Information

Provide stepdown-level care to patients with cardiac, respiratory, and neurological conditions requiring close monitoring

One 12-hour shift of unit-specific orientation provided

Pass/fail open-book exam on skills learned required during orientation with a 90% passing threshold

Successful candidates demonstrate a positive attitude, teamwork, and patient-oriented approach

Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year

Upfront RTO must be submitted at time of consideration; additional RTO requests will not be approved afterward

First-time travelers may be considered
