Research Specialist I

Research Specialist I Position in the Technologies to Explain Aging and Senescence (TEXAS) Lab, Department of Nutrition, Texas A&M AgriLife Research. Under general supervision of PI Dr. Waylon J. Hastings, responsible for performing and optimizing molecular assays related to aging and metabolic stress. Responsibilities Research and Technical Support (25%) – Maintain laboratory inventory, safety plan, instrument support, and cleanup. Data Analysis and Testing (50%) – Collect samples, perform qPCR, immunoassays, nucleic acid extractions, document measurements, and assist students. Training (10%) – Conduct training for undergraduate/graduate students, develop protocols, and provide professional development. Publications & Proposals (10%) – Draft methods tables, report results, and support funding proposals. Other duties (5%) – Additional tasks as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical field. Four years of biomedical research experience. Strong multitasking, communication, and teamwork skills. Proficiency in office software and instructional programs. Knowledge of R programming strongly preferred. Completion of Texas A&M biosafety and environmental health & safety training. Experience with human samples and/or BSL‑2 laboratories. Familiarity with DNA extraction, qPCR, and absorbance-based assays. Experience with mammalian cell culture desirable. Experience training others in novel procedures. Phlebotomy experience considered.
