POSITION OVERVIEW: Working under the supervision of the Medical Director and Associate Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) assumes total nursing care of specific patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and consultations. Follows established nursing standards, procedures, and practices and gives specific patient care directions to nursing and other staff. The NP may work in an inpatient or outpatient situation and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. An NP may also conduct physicals, order tests and serve as a patient's primary healthcare provider. May also prescribe medications if holding appropriate credentials. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Performs the initial history and physical examination, intermittent medical assessments as warranted.
- Recommends and/or orders medical interventions such as appropriate laboratory work, diagnostic imaging studies (X-rays, CT scan, MRI, etc.) medications and protocols for detoxification.
- Documents medical records appropriately. Utilizes dictation to complete required documentation in a timely manner such as admission assessment, history and physical examinations, intermittent assessments and recommendations, and patient discharge summaries.
- Assesses the physiological and behavioral health status and assesses the psychosocial health status of patient.
- Completes initial assessments and develops the plan of care. Assists in the development of treatment plans and nursing care plans for patients and provides nursing care consistent with the treatment plans.
- Reviews health history and information and makes appropriate clinical recommendations.
- Interacts with patients, counseling staff, clinical dietician, psychiatrist, medical director, other nurse practitioner(s), and other members of the interdisciplinary care team in such a manner that promotes a high standard of care.
- Participates in the delivery of individualized patient care following approved procedures as warranted.
- Functions under the direct supervision of the Medical Director in accordance with Nursing
- Standards of Care, Standards of Practice for Registered Professional Nurse as directed by the State Board of Nursing, Nursing Service and Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures.
- Determines mobility needs to assist with fall prevention and the determination of high risk for compromised skin integrity.
- Validates orders within timeframes specified in current policies and procedures.
- Recognizes, reports and acts upon reports of deviation in diagnostic studies.
- Educates patients regarding MAT options and encourages appropriate MAT use of all patients with AUD and/or OUD discharging on MAT to meet facility scorecard goals
- Performs daily detoxification and weekly residential visits for assigned patients.
- Identifies patient problems based on data related to the patient's health status.
- Identifies patient problems pertinent to psychiatric diagnostic impression. Schedules psychiatric evaluation.
- Collaborates with treatment team to include ancillary departments to determine appropriate treatment/discharge plan.
- Develops outcome statements for patients.
- Develops criteria for measurement of goals and communicates goals to appropriate persons to include patient, family, significant others and documents same. Obtains signature of patient.
- Revises/updates plan of care based on patient progress or lack thereof.
- Demonstrates knowledge of deescalation techniques.
- Establish effective working relationships that foster organizational success. Leads and engages staff through articulation of a vision and mission that inspires others. Play a key role in attracting, developing and retaining talented clinicians.
- Provides on-call coverage for patient admissions and acute medical/psychiatric needs as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Current unencumbered State license as Registered Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority required.
- Current Certification as a Nurse Practitioner required (i.e. FNP-BC, FNP-C, AGNP, AGPCNP-BC, etc.)
- Active DEA (and CDS if required by state) license. For all full time NP, the DEA and CDS must match facility address. For part-time and PRN, DEA and CDS may not require the address to be the facility address.
- Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctoral Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Current CPR or BLS certification preferred (or must complete during orientation period).
- 5-7 years nursing experience, five years' experience in behavioral health preferred.
- Knowledge of medical health care diagnoses and terminology, detoxification procedures, the diseases of addiction and substance abuse disorders, co-occurring disorders, DSM
- Criteria, and terminology preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Speaks clearly and persuasively in both positive and negative situations, has good listening skills, asks for clarification appropriately, responds well to questions, demonstrates group presentation skills and appropriately participates in meetings.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook preferred.
- Ability to safely prescribe medications and administer as needed.
- Competency in performing CLIA waived testing as needed.
- Proficiency in screening and assessing for suicide ideation and aggression.
- Critical thinking skills and ability to formulate accurate medical assessment.
- Understanding of ASAM criteria and levels of care.
- Inspiring Others on the Team: Provide leadership to develop motivated and strong teams targeting the highest quality in patient care. Assist in moving the performance of the facility and possibly the entire organization to a higher level.
