Maintenance Coordinator

Youngstown City School District is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and proactive Maintenance Coordinator to join the Business Operations team.

The Maintenance Coordinator works directly with the Business Manager and serves as the day-to-day leader of District Maintenance operations while providing operational oversight and coordination for Custodial and Skilled Trades functions. This position requires someone who can lead employees, manage multiple priorities, communicate effectively, use technology confidently, and consistently follow assignments through completion.

The successful candidate will work closely with building principals, employees, union representatives, vendors, contractors, and District leadership to help ensure YCSD facilities are safe, clean, functional, and well maintained.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to District Maintenance staff.
• Coordinate and support Custodial and Skilled Trades operations in collaboration with the Business Manager.
• Prioritize, assign, monitor, and follow up on electronic work orders.
• Coordinate custodial call-offs, coverage, attendance, scheduling, and related payroll information.
• Track required inspections, certifications, preventive maintenance, and compliance deadlines.
• Coordinate facility needs with Skilled Trades staff, vendors, contractors, and other District personnel.
• Maintain accurate electronic records, shared files, schedules, reports, and written follow-up.
• Travel regularly between District facilities to monitor operations and address facility concerns; a District vehicle is provided for work-related travel during regular operating hours.
• Respond to facility emergencies and operational issues outside normal working hours when necessary.
• Maintain frequent communication with the Business Manager regarding priorities, concerns, staffing, projects, and operational needs.

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

• Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn electronic systems and software.
• Facilities, maintenance, custodial, construction, logistics, operations, or similar experience preferred.
• Experience supervising employees in a unionized environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of FMX or similar facilities/work-order management software preferred.
• Building Operator Certification (BOC) Level I preferred; candidates who do not currently hold the certification should be willing to obtain it following hire.
• Strong problem-solving skills, sound professional judgment, confidentiality, reliability, and consistent follow-through.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a management team and professionally support administrative decisions.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet District driving requirements.
• Successful completion of required criminal background checks and pre-employment drug screening.
