Controller

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Controller in Rockville, MD. Summary: The Controller is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls while managing a small accounting team (1 direct report). This role ensures the accuracy of financial records, drives process improvements, supports month-end and year-end close activities, and partners with leadership to maintain efficient financial operations and compliance. Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end/year-end close
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
• Manage and mentor one direct report, providing guidance and support for daily accounting activities
• Develop, document, and improve accounting processes, workflows, and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements
• Perform account reconciliations, analyze financial results, and resolve discrepancies
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and audit preparation
• Partner with leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic business decisions
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
• Experience managing and/or mentoring a small accounting team
• Proven experience improving accounting processes and implementing best practices
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail
