Summary/Objective

The Service Projects Technician is responsible for completing commercial HVAC equipment replacements, changeouts, startups, troubleshooting, and other project-based work. This position works as part of Maxair’s Service Projects team and requires a strong combination of HVAC knowledge, diagnostic ability, and hands-on installation experience.

The Service Projects Technician works primarily on HVAC projects. The Service Projects team operates similarly to a small construction group, completing projects from equipment removal and replacement through startup, troubleshooting, and final operation.

The ideal candidate has strong commercial HVAC experience and has a work history of equipment changeouts, installations, startups, and solving technical problems in the field. This position works closely with the Service Projects Manager, other technicians, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, and other trades to safely and efficiently complete projects.

Essential Functions

1. Safely perform commercial HVAC equipment changeouts, replacements, and installations.
2. Perform equipment startups and verify proper operation of newly installed HVAC equipment and systems.
3. Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC equipment and system issues before, during, and after installation.
4. Perform repairs, modifications, and adjustments necessary to ensure proper system operation.
5. Safely recover, evacuate, charge, and handle refrigerants in accordance with applicable regulations.
6. Read and interpret equipment documentation, wiring  diagrams, specifications, and project information.
7. Identify and obtain materials, tools, and equipment required to complete assigned project work.
8. Communicate regularly with the Projects Service Manager regarding project progress, field conditions, technical issues, and additional work needs.
9. Coordinate and work effectively with other Service Projects technicians, pipefitters, sheet metal workers, subcontractors, and other trades.
10. Complete all required electronic paperwork and project documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
11. Maintain equipment, tools, materials, and inventory in the company vehicle for maximum efficiency.
12. Display team effort and maintain flexibility to work overtime, weekends, irregular hours, and occasional overnight stays as      project and business needs require.
13. Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company-issued and procured      assets.
14. Exhibit professional conduct at all times, whether at  the job site or driving company vehicles.
15. Maintain any necessary licenses or certifications which may apply.
16. Attend required department meetings.
17. Attend company or vendor training as required.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements:

Work Environment 

The Service Projects Technician works primarily in commercial and industrial facilities, including office buildings, schools, hospitals, government buildings, factories, mechanical rooms, and other active project sites. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors and in hot, cold, or unconditioned environments. Working in cramped spaces, on rooftops, and during irregular hours may be required. Ability to climb ladders to access rooftop equipment will be needed.

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling. It requires employees to regularly lift and move at least 50 lbs. Work will be indoor and outdoor. At times, work may be in awkward or cramped/tight spaces and involve handling heavy equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This is a full-time position, with typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM hours. Overtime and irregular hours are frequent.

Travel 

Daily travel to service locations in GA area is required.

Required Education and Experience

1. Have a high school diploma or GED
2. At least 18 years old
3. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and      participate in a drug free workplace
4. Possess a clean driving record and a current driver's      license
5. Strong steady work history with 5+ years minimum as a      Commercial HVAC technician
6. Local Union 72 membership as Apprentice, Tradesman,      or Journeyman (or the qualifications, willingness and ability to join)
7. EPA Certification for refrigerant handling
8. Working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad)

Preferred Education and Experience

1. OSHA 30 certification
