Job Summary Applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of complex patients in a comprehensive manner. Recognizes complex learning needs and prepares individual teaching plans for patients/families and consistently demonstrates effective patient education to peers. Consistently ensures a comprehensive continuum of care plan in collaboration with the health care team. Demonstrates and role models effective communication and conflict resolution skills. Ensures evidence-based care and continuously monitors patient outcomes. Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to Board of Nursing standards. Floats across entities to fulfill requirements of the role. Locations Vanderbilt University Hospital – Nashville, TN Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt – Nashville, TN (possible moves between both within assignment) Unit Medicine Stepdown Shift Night shift (7p-7a) Assignment Length Fixed assignment end date: 10/10/2026 Qualifications Registered Nurse required Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program (or equivalent experience) and ≥1 year of Medicine Stepdown RN experience; preferred ≥2 years of recent Medicine Stepdown RN experience Licensure: Registered Nurse BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification Core Responsibilities Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum. Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis. Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes. Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment. Additional duties may be assigned. Technical Capabilities Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Handles multiple assignments concurrently. Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Provides patient education in moderate difficulty situations. Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Conducts primary care patient interviews, physical examinations, and gathers relevant clinical data. Evidence-Based Practice (Novice): Searches for evidence to answer clinical questions under direction of others. Core Accountabilities Organizational Impact: Executes responsibilities with awareness of collateral effects. Problem Solving/Complexity: Analyzes moderately complex problems. Breadth of Knowledge: Expanded knowledge through professional experience. Team Interaction: Provides informal guidance to team members.
