Aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products. May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks. This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all functions. The employee is responsible for the quality assurance requirements of each task performed.Welders components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc. Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment. Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter. Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc using various hand and power tools. Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required. Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.Knowledge and Skills RequiredHave a high school diploma or GEDMust pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company.Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently.Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime.Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.Ability to understand and follow UTLX operating procedures and policies based on safety and field training.Working ConditionsExposed to dirt, fumes, smoke, and heat.Work outdoors and will be exposed to the elements.Physical effort in lifting and carrying materials and attaching rigging devices. Ability to lift 50 pounds.Moderate physical exertion is required. Positions relatively heavy objects by using a forklift or other mechanical means.Manual dexterity in operating control levers and buttons.Exposed to dirt, fumes, smoke, and heat.Some climbing into and out of vehicles, crane cabs, etc.Some outside work possible minor cuts and bruises.
