Position Summary
The DME Associate coordinates, fits, and manages durable medical equipment (DME) to support patient care within the Orthopedic practice. This role ensures accurate documentation, inventory control, and collaboration with providers and clinical staff to facilitate efficient patient care delivery.
Essential Functions
- Fit and dispense durable medical equipment in accordance with physician orders
- Educate patients on proper use, care, and expectations of prescribed equipment
- Document all patient interactions, fittings, and charges accurately in the EMR
- Coordinate DME needs for surgical cases across all providers
- Obtain insurance authorizations when required
- Ensure accurate charge entry and assist with billing coordination
- Maintain inventory levels, including ordering, tracking, and reconciliation
- Coordinate with vendors to obtain necessary equipment and resolve supply issues
- Maintain working knowledge of DME products, orthopedic protocols, and medical terminology
- Adhere to all clinical, regulatory, and compliance standards

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Health Sciences, or related field
- 1+ years of direct patient care experience (or equivalent healthcare experience)
- Basic knowledge of orthopedic DME
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) preferred
- Orthopedic Technology certification (OTC) or equivalent hands-on orthopedic/DME experience will be considered
- Experience in orthopedic or DME-focused clinical setting preferred
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Clinical setting with frequent patient interaction
- Requires standing, walking, and assisting patients with equipment fittings
- Ability to lift and position medical equipment as needed
Reporting Structure
- Reports to Practice Administrator
