About the Company The Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility on Airbus Way at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley opened in 2015 and produces A320 Family aircraft, adding a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Teams there assemble aircraft on two production lines, soon to be three, for the A220 and A320 Family, alongside colleagues skilled in electrical, structure and quality work. The facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and is part of the Airbus strategy of enhancing global competitiveness by meeting growing customer needs in the United States and beyond. Role Overview The Flightline Avionics Technician - A320 is based in Mobile, Alabama, and is responsible for performing Functional Test Procedures (FTP) and pre- and post-flight inspections to prepare built aircraft for test flight and delivery readiness. This includes operating, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and inspecting aircraft systems using approved aircraft data, operating a wide variety of test equipment and tooling, and interpreting technical manuals, drawings and engineering data. Assigned tasks must be completed within the allocated man-hour budget and meet safety, quality and cost guidelines. Key Responsibilities Primary responsibilities (70%) Perform aircraft system Functional Test Procedures, pre- and post-flight Daily Inspection checklists and prepare built aircraft for test flight readiness. Learn new tasks and techniques in troubleshooting aircraft systems and support flight line operations at the Airbus Final Assembly Line Mobile flight line organisation. Perform and follow level 1 troubleshooting procedures and document findings precisely in accordance with the recommended instructions, including integrated systems testing, calibration, alignment, troubleshooting and repair of airborne electronic flight control, navigational and heating systems. Perform pre-test, operational (functional) and final testing of electronic systems, components or subassemblies, plus final tuning, alignment or calibration. Troubleshoot electronic systems, components or subassemblies to determine the nature of the malfunction and the corrective action required. Perform post-dock maintenance daily checklists, safety and security checks and incoming inspection. Perform day-to-day planned and unplanned aircraft maintenance. Perform pre-induction first flight configuration and incoming inspection of the cabin interior, cockpit and electronic bays to ensure safety and security before first flight. Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight tests of electrical and electronic systems. Test and troubleshoot instruments, components and assemblies using circuit testers and voltmeters. Verify and upgrade aircraft avionic software to the latest version. Work closely with the systems engineer to interpret flight test data and diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems. Maintain a close working relationship with the assigned lead person regarding schedules, priorities, availability of parts, supplies and tools, and special instructions. Knowledge, skills and demonstrated capabilities (20%) Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft-specific tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers and powered and non-powered support equipment. Perform preparing, sealing and testing operations using thorough knowledge of aircraft sealing techniques and sealant characteristics such as storage, application, tack-free and cure times. Read and interpret approved aircraft diagrams, charts, schematics and maintenance procedures including AMM, IPC, AWD and Service Bulletins. Participate in process improvement, root cause analysis, 5S and other tools for improving workload, quality and safety and reducing cycle time. Participate in the daily team SQCDP project and daily tool and FOD management. Able to work in confined spaces, at height and in outdoor conditions. Able to support and train other aircraft technicians with technical knowledge and skills. Use standard and specialised hand tools, power equipment, measuring devices, test equipment, jigs and fixtures, including licensed equipment such as cranes, cherry-pickers, forklifts and lifting or loading platforms. Knowledge of applicable regulations on confined space entry, respiratory protection and proper use of respirators. Able to work under stressful conditions given the degree of responsibility involved. Other duties (10%) Assist with other duties as assigned. Licences & Qualifications Three years of experience with applied science in avionics, or an A&P or FCC licence. Valid A&P or FCC licence. Ability to obtain a Repairman Certificate. High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver licence. Knowledge of EASA and TCCA regulations. Experience Minimum five years of aviation experience, preferably in an aviation manufacturing or MRO environment (preferred). Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and written instructions and other information. Oral and written communication skills sufficient to prepare reports and discuss equipment malfunctions. Ability to read, understand and follow manual instructions to solve complex mechanical problems. Basic computer skills: email, Google Workspace and data entry. Requirements Willingness to work a rotating shift schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport allowing unrestricted travel. Travel required: 5% domestic and international. Authorised to work in the United States. Physical: able to see and use computer screens, hear normal conversations and warning signals, and take part in normal business conversations. Able to operate standard office equipment, ground support equipment and man lifts. Able to carry and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs (18 kg) and to push or pull up to 500 lbs on wheels. Able to sit for extended periods, occasionally squat or kneel, and stand for long periods. Able to travel domestically and internationally for training and offsite aircraft recovery, walk through office and production areas on sometimes uneven surfaces, and work in various weather conditions.
