Patient Care Technician2101 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE Washington, DC 20020Kids Are Our Everything.Department: 10149 Primary Care Anacostia TechPay Range: $20.75 - $40.99About the Role:The Patient Care Technician in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care delivery team, under the direction of the Registered Nurse perform basic nursing care activities, assist in maintaining a safe, clean, stocked patient care setting, assisting staff members and help direct patient flow.What You'll Bring:Minimum Education:High School Diploma or GED (Required)Minimum Work Experience:1 year in a healthcare setting if possible, in pediatrics1 semester clinical experience completed at an accredited school of nursing or military corpsman training (Preferred)Required Skills/Knowledge:Basic computer skills (typing, use of mouse, email)Knowledge of aseptic techniqueBasic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)Human relations and interpersonal skillsRequired Licenses and Certifications:Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) (Required)Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) (Required)Functional Accountabilities:Patient Services – Admission:Include but not limited to orienting family to use of call lights, monitor and unitSet up of monitor and alarmsPerform vital signs, height, weight and head circumferencePatient Services – Daily Living:Patient ADL's include but not limited to daily bath, skin care with mouth care and peri-careEnsure proper nutrition as ordered (ng, gt, or tray)Care of tube feeding and feeding of patientsApplication of skin creams as directed by RNCollection of cultures, urine and stool samples, etc.Direct Patient Care:Recognize and report pain and skin breakdownPrioritize tasks and special requests from RNAssist in performance of trach care and EVDsAssist with central line dressing, pin care, cast and traction care and care for dying patientsAssist with preparation of room for discharge and admission; assist with patient flow by maintaining a neat and orderly environmentObtain equipment and supplies and maintain PAR levelsMonitor Surveillance:Observe and alert RN when there are monitor deviationsWhen assigned to monitor bank will follow the monitor guidelines to dress code and professionalismInfection Control:Care for isolation patientsAdherence to hand washing before and after every patientClean equipment after each patient's useDocumentation:Document on nursing database, flow sheets and vital signs in a timely manner and notify appropriate charge nurse in computer or chart as suitableCommunication/Professionalism:Communicate effectively with RN and team members to achieve goals by reporting any changes, abnormal findings, and participate in beginning and end of shift reportingMaintain professional relationships with patients and familiesResolve conflict with co-workers appropriatelySupport a family-centered care environmentCommunicate with RN on all patient care activities at least every hour;
