Job Title: Hand Soldering Technician / Solderer Assembler Job Description

This role focuses on the manual assembly, soldering, inspection, and repair of electronic components, circuit boards, wiring assemblies, and related products in a manufacturing environment. You will use both through-hole and surface mount soldering techniques, follow detailed assembly documentation, and ensure all work meets strict quality and reliability standards. This position is ideal for someone with strong manual dexterity, keen attention to detail, and experience in electronics production.

Responsibilities

• Perform precise hand soldering of through-hole and surface mount (SMT) electronic components on printed circuit boards.
• Assemble electronic and electromechanical products in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Inspect solder joints and completed assemblies to verify compliance with internal and customer quality standards.
• Rework, repair, and modify printed circuit boards (PCBs) and assemblies as required to correct defects or implement design changes.
• Read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and detailed work instructions to complete builds accurately.
• Utilize soldering irons, microscopes, hand tools, and other production equipment safely and effectively during assembly and inspection tasks.
• Maintain accurate production records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
• Verify components, materials, and wiring prior to assembly to ensure correctness and readiness for production.
• Follow ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) procedures and quality control requirements to protect sensitive electronic components.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, productivity, and process efficiency within the production area.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with workplace safety and 5S standards.
• Collaborate with team members and support other production tasks as needed to meet schedule and customer requirements.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 13 years of hand soldering experience in an electronics manufacturing environment preferred.
• Proficiency with through-hole and surface mount (SMT) soldering techniques.
• Ability to read and understand assembly drawings, blueprints, schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions.
• Strong manual dexterity and fine motor skills for detailed soldering and electronic assembly work.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify solder defects and perform rework as needed.
• Familiarity with ESD-safe handling procedures and ESD control practices.
• Ability to use soldering irons, microscopes, hand tools, and precision assembly equipment safely and effectively.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
• Physical ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing detailed assembly work.
• Ability to frequently use hands and fingers for fine, repetitive tasks in soldering and assembly.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally as part of daily work activities.
• Visual acuity sufficient to inspect small electronic components and solder joints, with or without magnification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in electronic assembly, SMT assembly, and wiring of electronic and electromechanical products.
• Experience reading and working from engineering blueprints and detailed assembly documentation.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001; IPC certification in these standards is preferred.
• Experience identifying and correcting solder defects in accordance with IPC and internal quality criteria.
• Comfort working with microscopes and other magnification tools for inspection and fine-pitch soldering.
• Experience using a variety of hand tools commonly used in electronic assembly.
• Background in surface mount technology (SMT) processes and techniques.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate production records.

Work Environment

This position is based in an electronics manufacturing and assembly environment focused on printed circuit boards and electromechanical products. You will work primarily on a 1st shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. using soldering irons, microscopes, hand tools, and precision assembly equipment on a daily basis. The role requires frequent use of hands and fingers for fine, detailed work, extended periods of sitting or standing at a workstation, and occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds. You will work in an ESD-controlled area and follow established safety and quality procedures while maintaining a clean, organized workspace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nesconset, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
