Battery Service Center Technician

Job Purpose: This role supports both technical service and service center operations. This position is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining battery systems, as well as executing shipping and receiving tasks, managing inventory records, and preparing documentation for domestic and international shipments. The role requires a blend of mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced service center environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Removes and disassembles cells and inspects parts to detect defects.
• Replaces defective parts, reassembles battery, and fuses lead parts with gas torch.
• Attaches charger leads to battery posts or connector and starts charger.
• Reads meters and adjusts charge parameters to control time and flow of current through battery.
• Prepares new product for shipment.
• Loads and unloads truck.
• Performs warehouse maintenance/housekeeping.
• Provides back up coverage for material handling/staging and other warehousing tasks when assigned.
• Maintains telephone, Microsoft Teams chat, email communication with supervisor to receive pickup and delivery instructions.
• Prepares daily orders for shipment using standard work instructions to gather, verify, consolidate, stage, and load finished goods orders.
• Prepares bill of lading, pack list, and enters shipment information.
• Prioritizes daily work assignments and resolves shipping issues with management assistance.
• Initiates and verifies all paperwork accompanying shipment.
• Coordinates receipt, filing, and labeling accuracy of inbound bill of lading/pack slip documents and physical inventory in the receiving process.
• Prepares shipping documents when applicable, including out-of-country shipments.
• Ensures required documents are accurately completed and maintained in an orderly file.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment with little or no supervision.
• Assists other warehouse disciplines as required.

Qualifications:

• Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent; or industry related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to use computer systems including ERP, inventory control and MS office. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook. Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams. A basic mechanical aptitude. Previous experience working with hand and power tools. Able to read and comprehend manuals, procedures, and other written documents written in English. Must be at least 18 years of age to drive a company vehicle. Able to operate a lift truck; and have or be able to obtain a forklift truck license.
• Preferred Qualifications: Electrical understanding. The use of test equipment and reading schematics. Technical degree in Engineering where/if applicable to the location. Experience using Baan (ERP system) for processing and tracking orders or inventory. Ability to complete and process Bills of Lading (BOLs) accurately as part of daily shipping duties.

• This position requires you to drive a company vehicle. Therefore, you must be able to pass the company's driving requirements. Certain vehicles may also require a specific drivers license and have additional driving requirements.
• Must be able to differentiate colors.
• Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
• Risk of electrical shock.
• This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyone's safety.
• This position requires working in a plant/warehouse environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.
