BHCR Med Unit Nurse Specialist Full-Time Professional Long Island City, NY, US 30+ days ago Requisition ID: 1364 Salary Range: $115,000.00 To $115,000.00 Annually Job Description DOHMH has an opening for a Nurse Specialist. This position will oversee clinical planning and subject matter support for non-acute healthcare sectors to improve emergency preparedness and response capabilities. They will also be part of the Health Department’s incident command system leadership during public health emergencies. They will report to the Medical Director. Duties Provide scientific and clinical support for the Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR) Bureau of Healthcare and Community Readiness (BHCR) programs and activities, including activities that support the NYC Health Care Coalition and NYC DOHMH Community Preparedness Program. Participate in DOHMH Incident Command System (ICS) in a leadership role in the Healthcare System Support Branch; support development of emergency response groups during preparedness phase by leading or contributing to planning, training, and exercises in order to ensure prepared and functional incident response. Lead development of a Pharmacy Preparedness Program to improve pharmacy partnerships and communications before, during and after emergencies. Support medical countermeasure planning and coordinate with Bureau of Emergency Field Operations and the Bureau of Immunizations to support planning for community partner and healthcare delivery system involvement in emergency vaccination and mass prophylaxis campaigns. Lead pharmacy GIS and analyses with a focus on mitigating health disparities during public health emergencies by improving access to pharmacy and healthcare services. Support planning to address corrective actions to strengthen the continuum of care for future pandemics with a focus on care transitions and home/community-based care models, as well as to prepare for other disasters such as severe weather events and power outages. Support community education and risk communication activities to keep community preparedness partners engaged and informed. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher, with active New York State Registered Professional Nurse (or higher) licensure. Master of Public Health (MPH) or at least 5 years public health experience Minimum 2 years previous experience working in public health. Minimum 3 years previous experience working in clinical setting (hospital or clinic) after training. Additional Desired Qualities Expertise in epidemiological data analysis including fluency in R or SAS. Experience with stakeholder engagement and project management. Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills and ability to manage and report complex information. Desire to grow professionally, develop new skills and willingness to work outside of comfort zone. Experience working with the public health sector and coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders. Ability to prioritize and work in fast-paced environment with hard deadlines. This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date. Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties. This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
