Branch Manager

Overview Manages all activities of a branch. Responsible for the overall success of the branch operating model, including customer and employee experience, digital engagement, transactions/operations, servicing, and sales. Has personal production responsibility. Responsibilities Direct overall profitability by leading sales and business development, meeting operational objectives, and ensuring the branch achieves its annual goals. Lead the team through coaching, performance management, and setting priorities. Build and develop branch staff. Identify Retail and Business Banking customer needs through the M&T sales processes, using tools and resources to assist customers with short‑ and long‑term solutions. Proactively prospect and grow Business Banking relationships through outreach. Build the bank’s presence in the community. Conduct interviews and select employees based on the staffing model. Model and coach customer service and needs‑determination behaviors. Reinforce and maintain accountability for the execution of the Retail strategy. Ensure operational and regulatory compliance, including consumer and business banking guidelines, operational, security, and control policies and procedures, preventing fraud and protecting customer assets. Take ownership of complex account servicing and error resolution issues, including those escalated by other Bankers, and provide coaching to improve and reduce future problem resolution/escalations. Engage with all team members and business partners as appropriate. Independently process all Business Banking loan requests up to $250,000. Proactively bundle products and services as appropriate. Adhere to applicable compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with company or regulatory standards and policies. Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and any issues raised by external regulators. Complete other related duties as assigned. Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations. Scope of Responsibilities Report to a Retail Regional Manager and lead the branch team to achieve annual sales and profitability goals. Establish and maintain federal registration requirements outlined in the SAFE Act. Stay current on operational, product, and system changes/enhancements. Demonstrate good risk‑management decisions. Maintain insurance licensing minimum expectations as outlined in the M&T Licensed Banker Academy document. Serve the majority of time growing business through proactive sales and outside calling activities, while also servicing existing customers. Build productive partnerships with appropriate areas of the bank to resolve customer, service, and employee issues timely and accurately. Take full ownership of customer issues until they are completely resolved. Education and Experience Required Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent four (4) years of relevant experience. Minimum three (3) years of sales experience. Minimum two (2) years of managerial experience or proven leadership abilities. Insurance licensing required within 18 months of entry into the position; branch provides training within 6 months. M&T Business Banking Specialist licensing required within 18 months of hire. Demonstrated strong knowledge of Business Banking products, services, and client relationship management. M&T Way Certified Precision Leadership Certification; bi‑lingual/Spanish preferred. Competent PC skills, including Microsoft Office for word processing and spreadsheets; internet and email experience preferred. Education and Experience Preferred Strong sales/business development experience and success. Fundamental understanding of profitability. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to demonstrate and coach exceptional customer service. Strong financial services product knowledge. Strong organization, time‑management, and prioritization skills. Salary and Location Pay range: $72,200.00 – $120,300.00 Annual (USD). Location: Derry, New Hampshire, United States.
