Lead Inside Maintenance Technician

Lead and coordinate the daily operations of the district's inside maintenance team while performing skilled maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance work throughout district facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and operational learning environments for students, staff, and visitors.

Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to the Inside Maintenance Technicians by assigning and prioritizing work orders. Perform skilled maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, locksmithing, and other building systems. Troubleshoot, repair, and conduct preventative maintenance on building mechanical systems, boilers, pumps, air handling units, and controls. Monitor work quality and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Provide training and mentoring to maintenance staff on proper procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, district policies, and applicable building codes. Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests, including weather events, utility failures, and facility emergencies. Coordinate staffing assignments and serve as the lead technician in the absence of the Facilities Supervisor or Director. Coordinate repairs with outside contractors and inspect district facilities to identify maintenance deficiencies. Provide professional customer service, maintain inventory of supplies, and recommend tool/material purchases. Perform additional duties as assigned, including snow removal, facility setup for events, and operational support during staff absences.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Five (5) years of progressively responsible building maintenance experience. Demonstrated experience in multiple building trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general maintenance. Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. Possession of a valid Minnesota Chief Engineer Boiler Operator's License (or ability to obtain within a district-established timeframe). Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Required Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of commercial building maintenance and repair practices. Knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, and building. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, district safety policies, and applicable building codes. Principles of workflow coordination, leadership, and staff mentoring.

Required Skills: Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical blueprint/schematic interpretation skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, organize schedules, and manage time in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with staff, contractors, and administrators. Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work independently while effectively leading and coordinating the work of a team.

Working Environment: Work is performed primarily indoors across school district facilities, including schools, administrative buildings, and support facilities, with exposure to mechanical equipment, cleaning chemicals, noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Work includes occasional outdoor tasks in seasonal weather conditions (such as snow removal) and requires the flexibility for occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency call-in shifts.
