JOB PURPOSE:

The Marketing & Communications Directors are responsible for executing the vision of the Power and Privilege Symposium and its related events. This role involves utilizing various communication methods, mediums, and platforms to effectively promote the Symposium. The Director works closely with the Executive Director, Program Directors, Operations Directors, and Advisors, as well as on-campus and off-campus partners. This position is compensated through an educational Stipend of 800 Dollars per semester.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Plan and execute outreach efforts at Whitman College and in the greater Walla Walla area to promote the Power and Privilege Symposium. Create and implement a comprehensive marketing and communication plan, including branding for the Symposium. Develop and manage a strategic campaign for the Symposium. Update the Symposium’s website and social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, etc). Oversee additional promotional projects such as videos, posters, and stickers. Archive current and historical information related to the Symposium. Support the work of the Executive Team, including creating and distributing the Symposium pamphlet. Collaborate with Whitman Communications and P&P Operations Directors on T-shirt designs for the Executive Team and volunteers. Ensure all marketing and communication materials are accessible to all members of the Whitman and Walla Walla community.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective and frequent interaction with individuals and groups. Proficiency with creative software tools, social media platforms, and website editing. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with co-directors. Self-driven and motivated with strong task delegation skills. Interest in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues. Prior experience in campus-wide programming or involvement with the Power and Privilege Symposium is encouraged.
