Business Development Manager

Business Development Manager (BDM) Job Summary : The Business Development Manager (BDM) will develop new customer business within their assigned sales territory. The incumbent will educate prospects on Ryder’s services using the Ryder Sales Process, develop sales plans, analyze profitability, and manage competitive influences. This is a hunter role focused on achieving quota through strategic prospecting. Sales Territory: Chesapeake, VA Responsibilities Develop pre‑sales strategy for target accounts and create a sales activity pipeline to meet or exceed quota revenues. Respond pro‑actively to leads furnished and represent the full spectrum of Ryder services. Collaborate with Account Representatives, CDMs, National Sales, and DSDs to transition accounts and increase opportunities. Conduct needs assessments, prepare value‑based proposals, and develop account selling strategies on an ongoing basis. Facilitate new customer orientation and ensure compliance with sales protocols and SOM activities. Build relationships with internal business units and leverage cross‑functional resources (MDS, Safety, Finance) to expand opportunities. Document sales activity and account information for management reporting. Participate in training to improve sales skills, industry knowledge, and personal growth. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience. At least 5 years of proven sales excellence with quota achievement. Strong verbal and written communication skills. High level of initiative and self‑motivation. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to operate in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills. Detail oriented with strong follow‑up practices. Good understanding of Ryder’s product offerings and ability to interpret financial data. Compensation & Benefits Base Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 plus an uncapped commission structure. Average first‑year commission: $30,000 – $40,000; second‑year: $50,000 – $65,000. The role includes a company cell phone, mileage reimbursement, and a comprehensive benefits package covering health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan with employer match.
