Job Summary

We are seeking a Career Services Advisor for a vocational college in Huntington Park, CA. This role is ideal for a student-focused career services, job placement, recruitment, or vocational education professional who is passionate about helping students and alumni transition successfully into meaningful employment.

The Career Services Advisor will support a mission-driven education environment serving first-generation college students, working adults, career changers, and recent high school graduates. This is a highly visible role that connects students, graduates, faculty, employers, and campus leadership to create strong career pathways and job placement outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide one-on-one career counseling to students and alumni, including career planning, goal setting, resume writing, cover letter support, interview preparation, and job search strategy.
- Build and maintain employer relationships to develop job leads, externship opportunities, internship connections, campus recruitment activity, and graduate placement pipelines.
- Organize and support career fairs, workshops, networking events, mock interviews, employer visits, and other professional development programs.
- Track, manage, and report student and graduate employment outcomes, job placement activity, employer engagement, and career services program effectiveness.
- Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, registrars, campus leadership, alumni, and external organizations to strengthen student career readiness and placement opportunities.
- Develop and update career resources, promote career services participation, support compliance with institutional standards, and assist with department initiatives as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay range: $25.00 to $35.00 per hour.
- Job type: Temp-to-hire.
- Location: Huntington Park, CA.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Provide career counseling, job search coaching, resume support, mock interviews, and professional development guidance to students and alumni.
- Develop employer partnerships and job placement pipelines for graduates and current students.
- Coordinate career services programs, workshops, career fairs, campus recruitment activities, and student outreach.
- Track employment outcomes, maintain career services data, and report placement activity to support program improvement.

- High school diploma required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in career services, job placement, recruitment, workforce development, or a related field.
- Experience working in a college, vocational school, career training program, or student services environment.
- Strong knowledge of career development practices, job search strategies, employment trends, and employer engagement methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to coach students on resumes, interviews, networking, and professional communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and campus leadership.
- Proficiency using career services management systems, student tracking tools, databases, or similar technology.
- Strong organizational, event planning, follow-up, and time management skills.
- Empathy, active listening, customer service orientation, problem-solving ability, and a genuine commitment to student success.

Preferred Qualifications

- College education preferred.
- Prior experience supporting job placement, externship coordination, or employer relations within a vocational education or career college setting.
- Experience developing employer partnerships in local, regional, or industry-specific job markets.
- Leadership experience or experience coordinating department activities, student workers, interns, or externship students.
- Familiarity with accreditation, compliance, reporting, or institutional standards related to career services and placement outcomes.
