Job Title: Laser Operator & Programmer Job Description

Join a growing precision manufacturing team as a Laser Operator & Programmer, where you will program, set up, and operate TRUMPF fiber laser equipment and related automation systems. You will support the full metal fabrication process, from programming and cutting sheet metal components to assisting with secondary operations, while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Program, set up, and operate TRUMPF fiber laser equipment and automation systems to support production requirements.

• Create, edit, and optimize laser cutting programs using TRUMPF Boost software or similar CAD/CAM platforms.

• Develop efficient nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and cutting efficiency.

• Program sheet metal components for laser cutting and support secondary operations such as press brake forming.

• Maintain a 2–4 day programming backlog to ensure consistent support for production demands.

• Support machine operators with programming revisions, troubleshooting, and process improvements.

• Load and unload sheet metal materials and stage materials to meet production schedules.

• Operate additional fabrication equipment, including press brakes, bandsaws, and other production machinery as needed.

• Cut and process parts in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and internal standards.

• Stage completed parts for downstream manufacturing processes and ensure proper flow through the shop.

• Assist with prototype, custom, and sample part production to support new product development and customer requests.

• Perform dimensional inspections to verify that parts meet specified tolerances and requirements.

• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions to produce accurate parts.

• Monitor production quality, identify defects or process issues, and take corrective actions as needed.

• Collaborate with leadership and production teams to resolve quality concerns and implement improvements.

• Ensure all finished products meet customer expectations and company quality standards.

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on laser machinery and related equipment.

• Monitor tooling and consumable inventory for laser equipment and report replenishment needs.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area in accordance with 5S standards.

• Follow all safety procedures, use required safety equipment, and contribute to a positive safety culture.

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience in laser operation and programming, including set up and operation of TRUMPF fiber laser equipment.

• Proficiency with TRUMPF Boost software or similar CAD/CAM platforms for creating and optimizing laser cutting programs.

• Ability to develop efficient nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and reduce waste.

• Strong skills in laser machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting in a production environment.

• Experience with sheet metal fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, and handling sheet metal components.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions accurately.

• Competence in performing dimensional inspections and using measurement tools to verify part accuracy.

• Experience operating press brakes and other fabrication machinery such as bandsaws.

• Solid understanding of machine troubleshooting and basic preventative maintenance practices.

• Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using CAD/CAM tools beyond TRUMPF Boost, including familiarity with SolidWorks or similar design software.

• Background in working with sheet metal components for both production and prototype applications.

• Exposure to 5S or other lean manufacturing practices in a fabrication environment.

• Ability to support prototype, custom, and sample part production for new or specialized projects.

• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production teams, leadership, and other departments.

• Demonstrated ability to manage a programming backlog and prioritize tasks to meet production deadlines.

Work Environment

This role is based in a precision metal fabrication facility equipped with TRUMPF fiber laser systems, automation equipment, press brakes, bandsaws, and related production machinery. You will work on the shop floor, handling sheet metal materials, staging parts, and operating multiple machines as needed. The environment emphasizes 5S principles, so work areas remain clean, organized, and efficient. Safety procedures are strictly followed, and employees are expected to use appropriate safety equipment and follow established protocols while working with lasers, presses, and other fabrication tools. Work hours align with standard production schedules, with the need to support ongoing manufacturing demands and maintain a steady programming backlog.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
