Medical Assistant

Located at 173 Worcester Street in Wellesley, MA, our office provides primary care for adult patients. Our adult internal medicine practice provides physical examinations, routine health screenings, and preventative care for patients ages 18+. The goal is to identify and control patients' health risk factors before they become problems. We diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, and promote general health, disease prevention and overall well-being. Did we mention that parking is free at this location? We are seeking a full-time 40 hour Medical Assistant to support our practice onsite Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.

Our Medical Assistants play an integral part in the operations of our community-based physician practices. Dedicated to clinical support, the Medical Assistant ensures a smooth patient flow within the practice and assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of physician or advanced practitioner.

Summary: The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions:

• Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
• Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
• Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
• Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
• Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
• Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Various Issuers preferred Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Various Issuers preferred

Experience: Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
