Intellectual Property Associate – Patent Prosecution & Litigation
Direct Counsel represents an AmLaw 100 firm seeking a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate with 3–5 years of post-JD experience to join its sophisticated IP practice. This position may be based in Boston, Denver, New York, Palo Alto, or Washington, DC .
The attorney will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge patent prosecution and litigation matters involving innovative technologies and life sciences, while collaborating with experienced attorneys on complex intellectual property matters.
Responsibilities- Handle patent prosecution and litigation matters from strategy through resolution.
- Advise clients on patent portfolio management, development, and patentability .
- Conduct competitive landscape and intellectual property analyses.
- Work with clients in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, gene therapy, medical device, and digital health industries.
- Collaborate with attorneys and clients on sophisticated IP strategies and disputes.
- 3–5 years of post-JD experience with substantial experience in both patent prosecution and litigation.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Undergraduate degree in Biology ; a life sciences Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
- Experience handling patents in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, gene therapy, medical devices, or digital health.
- Knowledge of patent portfolio management, patentability, and competitive landscape analysis .
- Admission to practice before the USPTO .
- Active state bar admission and membership in good standing in the jurisdiction where the attorney will be based ( MA, NY, CA, CO, or DC ).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.
- Candidates should be prepared to submit law school, undergraduate, and graduate school transcripts .
