We are seeking Roadway Construction Inspectors to join our Quality Management and Construction Inspection practice team in Duluth, Georgia. Come join us!
This is an advanced journey to advanced level inspector position technical work supporting engineers in functional areas of roadway and structure construction acceptance inspection and materials sampling and testing verification. Employee supports engineers and lead inspectors in the management of construction activities on large complex construction projects. Work usually involves a significant amount of decision making and use of judgment and may include providing work directions to others.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform independent and moderately complex inspections of roadway and bridge construction activities to verify compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and quality standards.
- Inspect, sample, and test construction materials, including soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete, to ensure quality, proper composition, and compliance with project requirements.
- Evaluate pavement construction operations, including placement, depth, alignment, compaction, and surface quality.
- Monitor roadway and structural construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
- Observe and document construction of structural elements, including foundation excavations, culverts, piling, reinforcing steel, structural steel, concrete placement, and backfill operations.
- Verify the installation and maintenance of traffic control systems and erosion and sediment control measures.
- Perform field measurements, calculations, and quantity verification to support contract administration, pay estimates, and project documentation.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely inspection reports, testing records, and project documentation.
- Support project teams by performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
You’ll thrive here if you have
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field with a minimum of two (2) years of progressive transportation inspection or technician experience.
- OR an associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology with five (5) years of progressive transportation inspection or technician experience.
- Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level 1A Certification (Erosion and Sediment Control).
- Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Worksite Erosion Control Supervisor (WECS) Certification.
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification or American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification.
- OR a high school diploma or GED with seven (7) years of progressive transportation inspection or technician experience.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of highway construction specifications, standards, materials, methods, equipment, and accepted construction practices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction plans, contract documents, specifications, inspection procedures, and related project documentation.
- Proficiency in performing mathematical calculations related to transportation and highway construction, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric computations.
